Guitar Hero Van Halen - PlayStation 2

I was never really a big Van Halen fan but I like them a lot more after playing this game. If you liked GH: World Tour then I think you'd enjoy this game because that's the version it was made from. There's no "story mode" with short animated cutscenes, tho. I'd say 90% of the songs are performed by the 2008-2009 Version of VH. But the last block of songs you unlock is called "The early years" and depicts them in the late 70's early 80's. I play on Hard and all the song challenging but still fun to play. The button arrangement is excellent. The only songs that were too hard for me were 'Eruption' and 'Spanish Fly'. Also the non-Van Halen songs are really good, too. "I want it all" by Queen is probably my favorite song in the entire game to play. Great addition to any Guitar Hero collection.

Here's my criticism - even in fantasy land the band isn't back together. Michael Anthony wiped from existence = lame. Also there is a picture on the back of old school Eddie, Dave and Alex (and Eddie's kid instead of Mikey even though he didn't exist) but at least in the first part of the game when you play a VH song it shows the current, depressing weird Dave/ short hair Eddie (and Wolfgang) line up. The songs are the songs which is great - but don't expect to play as US festival Van Halen because it isn't going to happen.

As a Guitar Hero nerd I just had to have this Van Halen edition of the game. This was the last one that I needed to make my collection complete, and it didn't let me down. The Van Halen songs along with the add ons in the game, I would recommend this to anyone who loves their Guitar Hero... The only thing that kept me from 5 stars is the load time for this game. I know with a PS2 that is to be expected, but this one seems to lag on even more... But if you are patient, go buy this one!!

This is by far the best Guitar hero installment yet! Guitar hero is all about the guitar and this is what real guitar playing sounds like. Eddie's licks are extremely fun to play and they simply blow away all those "filler" songs they put on all the other guitar hero titles (most of which don't have any creative guitar in them at all.) The only Van Halen I consider to be the real deal is the original Van Halen from the 70's and 80's, so I didn't really care whether the "van hagar" songs were included or not. This game is extremely fun and addictive without them and well worth the money!...Hoping for a "Rush" guitar hero soon.

I'm sure I'm the only one still playing Guitar Hero on PS2, but in the slim chance that some other soul out there is debating whether or not to purchase this game, I say DO IT!I wasn't even a big Van Halen fan but I still enjoyed playing this game. I've played most of the other Guitar Heros and sometimes you really like a song but the arrangement sucks. Not here. Hot for Teacher, Eruption, Spanish Fly = AWESOME!I beat the game on Hard and now I'm off to do Expert. Rock on!

The disc would never read kept saying cannot read disc

I have both the PS3 and PS2 versions of this game. The only differences I can see or feel is the slight drop in graphics. And I mean slight! I loved this on the PS3, and this PS2 version plays just as well. Awesome music choices, great PS2 graphics, if you are a VH fan like me you will not be disappointedWorthy addition to anyone's GH collection and a must have for PS2 GH fans.

Not being a huge Van Halen fan, myself, I was pleasantly surpised that several, cool, non-Van Halen songs did exist on this disc, though Van Halen afficionados may be disappointed that the game does not include some staple songs from the eponymous band's repertoire.

If you're a Van halen fan get this gutair hero!! It plays like the Aerosmith one a d it's challenging because it's Van halen but they're are other great track on this game. If you're a classic gutair hero fan definitely get this game.
