The jar of gesso came with transparent (like Scotch tape) tape wrapped around the outside rim of the lid. When I opened the lid the inside seal had been removed/opened. The product itself looked okay, but I haven't used it yet.

Only needs a bit of water to use. And it lasts a long time.

This gesso is amazing! It is incredibly thick and rich, and covers really well even with just one coat. Because it’s so thick, it can really improve the surface quality of value and cheaper canvases with little effort. The texture when dry grabs the paint really well, and my colors appear brighter.My only complaint is how fast it dries. For most people, it’s probably a great thing. I use larger format canvas, and getting the whole thing covered evenly can sometimes be a challenge.

This has been an AMAZING base for my encaustic paintings where I want a dark background. It works so much better than any white gesso I've found.

When you need a dark background this is the best! The hide factor is amazing one coat covers anything.
