great pump, quiet, and powerful
Running air stones for RDWC system. Powering eight 5 gallon buckets and one 25 gallon res. In addition it is powering two 5 gallon bubble buckets and one 5 gallon tea brewer. All with no problem. Was running one of the commercial style 8 way pumps and this AL-40 is so much less noisy, and a lot more powerful. Pros: 1. quiet 2. powerful, can power multiple systems , 3. Customer service is fast to act 4. simple, effective, solid construction with parts to rebuild if needed 5. good warranty Cons: 1. Pricey, but so far it seems to be a great value. Does the work of two "commercial pumps". 2. Does not come with an air manifold so factor an extra 15-30 into your budget. 3. Fired up first time and it smelled very much like parts cleaning solvent/gasoline. thought it was the rubber hose but it was coming from the pump. Called the manufacturer who stated this was common. Plan on running it 5 days or so with nothing connected before the smell goes away. and before you put it to use.

Very good air pump not just for aquariums. You get what you pay for.
To sum this up if you need an air pump for your large fish tank this is the one to get. I, like many people have been through a large number of air pumps and they all wear out over time putting out less and less air. Most of the pumps do not have replacement parts so you are stuck buying yet another pump. I bought the 15 LPM model and it is MORE than enough to run 2 or 3 large (120 gallon) tanks with large airstones. My last pump was a EcoPlus Commercial Air 1 - 1 to 18 Watts 793 GPH and it worked for awhile but it too was losing pressure. It was very noisy in comparison and always running hot. This pump is built like a tank and is VERY quiet compared to the old one. Yes this pump is expensive in comparison to others but it is proof "you get what you pay for". Do you want to keep spending over and over buying cheap pumps? From what I have read this pump also has a rebuild kit but it is only needed after several years of use. It comes as shown in the picture. The adapters are plastic and I would have preferred them to be brass. You will need to purchase all other plumbing on your own so I recommend getting an adjustable gang valve to control air flow because it puts out a LOT of air for its size. I just got this pump and I am impressed . Hopefully it will last longer than the year or less that the others did.

What a brilliant aquarium pump for my 20+ tanks.
Amazing product. I was able to retire about 10 individual smaller pumps and use just this one. I sold the old pumps and really this cost me nothing. The sound is almost silent. the only noise it the sounds of the bubbles. I am running it on 20 tanks and I know I could add maybe 10 more no problem. Highly recommend this for anyone with large tanks or a bunch of smaller tanks.

Powerful and Quiet. Love it.
Love this pump! Researched a bunch and then bought it for a small fish room with ten tanks all with sponge filters plus 2 of the tanks also have under gravel filters. Largest tanks were a 60g and 55g, but mostly 20g and 30g with a couple 10gs. I have it on the top shelf near the ceiling and can’t hear it at all over the sponge filters. I have it pumping into a 3” PVC on the ceiling and then 1.5” PVC running down 2 walls where all the little valves tap off of. Doesn’t run hot at all. Its been a month, but if I can get 3 years out of it, I will just buy another one.

Aerator
The rubber tube connection needed a metal adapter so it would work properly. We took the one off old machine

It's a work horse
Still going strong after 5 winters of aeration. I use this pump to aerate 5 tubs in my aquaponic garden during the winter months. It's a work horse. I will upgrade to the bigger one next winter.

Incredible Amount of Air At 5-ft. depth
This pump has only one moving part---a diaphram that vibrates and creates an INCREDIBLE amount of air flow. The only other air pumps that can approach this much air production---to run huge, deep airstones---are piston pumps which can be difficult and expensive to maintain. They also have a risk of oil contamination of air in poorly designed models. Every couple of years a new diapram kit can be used to refurbish this pump at home. I use six wide 8" air stones made for ponds and run them at 5-ft. deep in my koi pond. My Koi always enjoy the maximum air saturation levels possible in their water and are comfortable in our "desert" area on the hottest days. The pump is expensive but durable and made with real quality control. It is well worth the price. It is replacing one that I used outdoors (with a lattice-vented plastic laundry basket turned upside down to protect it) for about 10-years. ---John in Sun City, CA
