RASCIST AND NOT REALLY IN SAN PEDRO
This was very disappointing. Most of the locations WERE NOT in San Pedro and this author's knowledge of San Pedro was very limited. For example, he talks about the Marine Mammal Center being built on top of the old Ft Mac Arthur barracks which is totally untrue. My husband and I lived close by and often walked up their and my husband pointed out the barracks he had stayed in when he was in ROTC. There was a murder there of a student in the late 1990's that he doesn't even mentionWe walked there late at night all the time and never heard any of the noises he describes.I think his story about Ft Mac is strictly imaginary. Also, he speaks very derogatorily of Mexican-Americans and Chicano culture.I am surprised Amazon would offer something so obviously racist

Well-Written and Filled with Details
When I was looking for something non-fiction to read and I came across this book, what interested me first was the fact that it gets into locations in Southern California that I'm not all that familiar with. However, I've always wanted to know more about them. Just the little details about San Pedro history were fascinating...and really just interesting to someone who doesn't know all that much about them. Even the parts about Juan Jose Dominguez and how land grants were done back then were a novelty. I've always been a fan of the supernatural and I've read a lot of books out there that range from the occult to books claim to have been automatically written by psychics. And this one offered a lot of information that confirmed everything I have read in a general sense, and it added a few things that I didn't know. I found Chapter 4 particularly interesting with respect to California and the Civil War. And Chapter 14, which deals with the Hernandez couple and what happened after she left him and moved to a small place on 11th Street in San Pedro...and how this particular case was investigated, kept me turning the pages.I read this book in digital format, and purchased it here on Amazon. The writing was excellent, it's well-edited, and it's a nice addition to my non-fiction library. I'll be checking out other books by this author.

My Hometown Secrets
San Pedro, California is my hometown. This book was fascinating whether the reader knows this little town or not. Each chapter takes me on a tour of the history that is well documented. The Haunting is mysterious and leaves the reader with questions that may never be answered. Will take a trip from Tucson to San Pedro soon and view many of the places from the book.

Another great book by Brian Clune
Another great book by Brian Clune. I love that the book covers some of the lesser known haunts in Southern California. This book is invaluable for anyone interested in haunted locations in Southern California and especially for people who may not be as familiar with some of these sites. Now people have some other cool places to check out. It's also a great reference for the seasoned researcher as the book gives a nice mix of history and haunting to draw from.
