Hi, does this come painted/with paint or do i need to purchase paints separately?

Hi, this model comes without the paint or brushes, really good model though but do have to faff with flashing plus need to get your own glue and tools.

Hi, is it worth using a primer before painting and is it ok to apply it by brush?

I wouldn't use primer, use a very thin paint of designed paint (acrylics in my case ) apply by brush 2-3 watered layers make perfect primer so all the detail will remain visible. Thick paint can cover grooving and you will lose detailing. Get some patients and do it properly with at least 6 layers on outside then dry brush on top to get best results at the end. I just start my and below deck come out beautifull after 8 layers of different shades (I prefer rusty old look almost real)
