not worth the cost
These are effective for dehydration, but much too expensive to use on any sort of practical basis. The cost for each 8 oz makes their use prohibitive for anything practical. Maybe if you are running in a race or competing in a specific athletic event for which you want hydration and don't mind spending extra money this is a good choice, but it is not helpful for the management of medical conditions requiring extra hydration, which is why it was recommended to me.

Comparative Review -- excellent for dehydration and electrolyte replacement, but cheaper unflavored product available
Last year, I said goodbye to things like Pedialyte when I found this product. It works great, and is much cheaper. I've found that drinking a liter of water prepared with this WHO formula of minerals REALLY helps me after a 1.5 to 2 hour run in the Texas summer. Regular electrolyte supplements just don't do the trick. This is a heavy-duty rehydrator. If you're just looking for something to keep up normal electrolyte levels, though, you should probably opt for a weaker product like LYTEshow ( LyteShow - Electrolyte Concentrate for Rapid Rehydration - 40 Servings (With Magnesium, Potassium, Zinc) ) or (if you want sweet) Trace Minerals Power Paks (comes in a variety of flavors - Trace Minerals Research Electrolyte Stamina Power Pak, Concorde Grape, 32 Count ) -- both work well as a daily aid. Now, though NormaLyte works great after summer runs, I don't like to spend two and a half bucks every time I run all summer (and central Texas has loooong summers). Luckily, I recently found Trioral oral rehydration salts packets: TRIORAL - Oral Rehydration Salts ORS (15, One Liter Packets/Box) World Health Organization (WHO) New Formula for Food Poisoning, Hangovers, Diarrhea, Electrolyte Replacement . It's the same WHO rehydration formula as is in Normalyte, but it doesn't have any added flavor/carbs. The cost, however, is currently between 55 and 95 cents per packet depending on whether one buys 15, 35, or 100 packets.TRIORAL's lack of sugar/flavor is a plus for some folks and a negative for others. The stuff tastes like a mildly salty but strongly mineralized water--as you might imagine. It's not a great taste, and I do prefer NormaLyte if I'm just going on taste. But I often just flavor Trioral on my own to enjoy drinking it more. I think both products are equally effective, and I've used both after getting seriously dehydrated. If I catch the dehydration before I actually feel it (by going off of how much I've been sweating), I recover so much more easily. If you want more information on the Trioral itself, I've written a more detailed comparative review with anecdotes and flavoring ideas on the Trioral page. (You can search reviews for keywords, such as a reviewer's name, to zero in on specific reviews). Both of these products are 5-star products that work great. If you're looking for a product you will use consistently, the economical way to go is to try Trioral. If you just want something for the occasional flu recovery then, NormaLyte is also a great option.

Allergic
This was a mistake purchase, but it cost more than half to send back. Im allergic to one of the ingredients, so I can't try it. Please make a free and clear version! I can't see why you would add such a common allergen to this important product. One use is to give a patient after EPI pen due to Anaphylaxis when the hospital isn't accessible, to help ensure electrolyte balance. The last thing you need is another ANA shock problem!

Normalyte is not just for Summer
Normalyte is a great product. Aside from its obvious benefits for hot summer months when you are sweating like crazy and know you need to stay hydrated, I use Normalyte during the winter months where I am less cognizant of my fluid loss. I initially was surprised by the strong salt taste when I took my first drink, but the bitterness is quickly overcome by the sweet orange flavor. After a few drinks, the salt taste becomes less noticeable and the drink itself starts to taste good. Its’s like the first time you drink a beer; it’s an acquired taste. I also notice cosmetic benefits when I use Normalyte during the winter months. After drinking Normalyte for a few days, I could feel my face, lips and skin being noticeably soft and hydrated.

Too expensive
The product itself is fine, however it is too expensive. There are similar products here that are far cheaper than 2.67 a packet. I freaking love this stuff
I freaking love this stuff! For dehydration from exercise, environmental, or alcohol consumption (I may be speaking from experience on some or all of these things), you cannot find anything better. We've used many other brands, but this is the most serious rehydration solution we've found on the market. After a week of suffering from rehydration after being hospitalized (we live in the desert and he overdid it), my husband still wasn't himself. We tried several other rehydration solutions, but he still hadn't bounced back. I found NormaLyte and ordered it for Next-Day delivery. He finished a drink that contained one packet and he was back to himself within hours. It was amazing. We were totally sold on it and have been stocking it in our home ever since!
