Works well so far but feels flimsy, suspect it won't last long
I took the advice of another reviewer and ordered three of these to replace a Cuisinart SlikFroth milk frother that died after 13 months of once- to twice-daily use, for which I paid $12.99 (for one -the price is now up to well over $17 for one of them, here on Amazon, as of Oct. 2014). I paid $12.98 for THREE of these Ikea frothers, figuring they'd last about 1/3 as long as the Cuisinart. That's a five dollar savings right off the bat.Right out of the box, I observed differences as well as commonalities with my dead Cuisinart frother. First off, the Ikea frother performs very well to froth milk (microwave-heated non-fat milk, in my case). So, no difference there. People whose reviews state this doesn't froth may have less than full batteries, may have inserted them incorrectly, or may have a defective unit. I tested all three of the ones I ordered the day they arrived, and they all worked as they should and frothed milk to an excellent, foamy condition very quickly. However, there are differences. 1) there's more quiver in the wand on the Ikea than there was in the Cuisinart. Ideally, the shaft should remain at the exact same angle to the handle when the wand end is rotating, but that's not the case; the wand jiggles quite a bit, which leads me to believe this mechanical stress will wear the device out more quickly. 2) You can feel a good deal of vibration in the handle of the device when it's turned on and you're holding it and using it. That's certainly a function of the wand-wiggle. That, too, will certainly contribute to mechanical stress and wear the device out more quickly. 3) inserting the batteries is a pain. When you insert the second battery, it's hard to get it in. I learned to give the handle a bit of a tap with my hand (not with a counter top or anything hard, which would likely damage the unit), while holding it horizontal, to "seat" the first battery properly so as to make room for the second one and make it possible to insert it. This is less than ideal and may also contribute to a limited device life. 4) The handle, which is the motor housing, is made of thin material, whereas the Cuisinart's housing/handle was thicker and sturdier. If I get a year or more out of the three frothing devices I ordered (i.e. four months or more out of each one of the three), I'll be fine with the deal, since I will have saved $5 compared to re-purchasing the Cuisinart for $17.99 (and assuming that the Cuisinart would once again last a little over a year). When these three frothers croak, I'm buying a hand-cranked frother from Bonjour. I'm tired of using up batteries on these things and having to replace them every year. I want something that will last and not contribute to more junk in the landfill. However, in terms of usability, so far so good with these cheap Ikea frothing devices.

Mini Foamer...Unplugged
This little battery-operated wand from Ikea carries a mighty punch...foam-wise. If you like lattes or foamed milk in your morning coffee but don't want to spring for a fancy electric appliance that costs big bucks, you might want to consider one of these cute little gizmos. It is not the most durable item, perhaps, but two AA batteries are all it takes to whip up several ounces of skim milk to a fare thee well in just seconds. Heat the frothed milk for 10-15 seconds in a microwave, pour in your coffee and there it is! A thick white moustache of milk foam on your upper lip.Afterwards, dunk the coil and stem in some warm soapy water, rinse and let air dry someplace safe. The stem and coil need to be treated with some respect, not jumbled about in some overcrowded utility drawer. At this price, why not buy all three? Keep one and give the others to your two best friends.

But once we did the power was great and no longer intermittent
It's cheaply constructed, so we had a hard time at first getting the battery to stay connected. We found out that we had to fiddle a little bit with the battery cover to get it to stay in place correctly. But once we did the power was great and no longer intermittent. It frothed just fine. The wand does vibrate a little bit (not perfectly straight as it spins), but not too bad where it would be problematic. We haven't had it that long, so time will tell how it holds up. We got the 3 pack so we could give 2 as gifts.

Inexpensive but worth it!
I had these frothers for about 2-3 weeks and bought them because of the low price and reviews. I drink regular Keurig coffee generally, but always love the froth when I go out to the coffee shop (very seldom). I bought these thinking they are my first step to spending more money on a warmer/frother- but I have found that it is really not a big deal to use a small saucepan to warm the milk- as long as I rinse right away. And although I bought it originally just for some froth on top of my keurig coffee, more often than not I've been heating the milk putting instant coffee and frothing the whole bit- delicious! So far the one frother is working great still- made the kids hot cocoa with it a few times- they love it too!

This little frother makes everyone smile!
I LOVE this little tool! I keep mine standing up next to the coffee pot so it's handy whenever someone wants to froth some cream. It makes the morning coffee so special and very fun for after dinner coffee with dessert. I tried to make designs in the coffee with the frothed cream; but, gave up---now I just put the cream in the mug; heat it for 20-30 seconds in the microwave and then froth away. THEN, I pour in the coffee & sprinkle a little cinnamon on top. Pretty and delicious and makes us feel like we're on vacation! I gave the other 2 that came in the purchase to my hairdresser and my BFF---both had big smiles upon opening the treat. This little frother makes me happy!

pretty good. great price and gets the job done.
For the price this is great. They feel really cheap but work great. Not real powerful but good enough. I do wish the rod was a longer for big cups of chocolate milk. I use it for nesquick. The rod is only long enough for a short cup. I just add in half the milk I need and all of the chocolate mix, then add in the rest of the milk after I mix it.

Works Like a Charm
I was skeptical at first, but the reviews from other users convinced me that even if not all of the frothers work, the price was still worth giving it a try.I placed the order and received the items within two days. The packaging was simple, and the first one I tried already worked.I've tried frothing low fat and whole milk so far, both cold and warm. So far, the warm whole milk frothed up the best (and the foam held for quite a while). I have made a video of homemade cappuccino using the Ikea frother: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDEt30Irx9c .I will update the review on wear and tear if it starts to break.
