Best Tex-Mex cookbook and history
I love this book. Great read and recipes. The best Tex-Mex book with history behind the food.

It is a wonderful book
Adan is a Houston treasure. This his second book, that came out in 2019 but that I only found out about in 2022 (and immediately purchased a copy). He is one those writers whose recipes you can trust to be well thought out and well tested.Growing up with what we call Tex-Mex, and being the admin for a FB group that preserves and documents through photos and articles, Tex Mex Vintage and Retro Menus and Memorabilia, the cuisine of Hispanic Texas is dear to my heart. What Adan has done is to point out in a scholarly fashion that the food of Hispanic families, that he grew up with and that is common to home style cookery, differs from the classic Tex-Mex we find in restaurants. And he has set out to document with recipes, the cuisine of Hispanic Texans, thus the term Texas Mexican, just as one might say Oaxacan Mexican cuisine or Jalisco Mexican cuisine. He notes, correctly, that this is a cuisine the comes from as far north as the cities of Texas down to the regions of Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon (eg as far south as Monterrey). But he is a true chef, and there are his own riffs. Tasty stuff. I made his fricos recipe today as I wrote this review.Highly recommended.
