One Wintry Night: A Classic Retelling of the Christmas Story, from Creation to the Resurrection

My grand kids enjoy me reading this to them.

One of the best Christmas stories! It simply explains why we need Jesus.

If you are looking for a book to share with your family that shows how Jesus' birth ties in with creation and beyond then this is for you! I disagree that this book is just suitable for ages 4-7. This story is not only ageless, it is timeless and has become a staple here in our family during the Christmas season. In fact I think it is better for older children and adults as although there is some absolutely amazing artwork in this book which is also in the Kindle version, it is not a picture book as such. Way more writing than pictures.Ruth Bell Graham managed to weave a story of sharing the Bible in a nutshell with the story of a young boy named Zeb, who gets injured and stranded at the old cabin his grandfather helped build way back when. With his sprained ankle and the fact that they are snowed in, Zeb cannot get back home and so listens willingly as the woman of the house tells him the "Christmas story".You will read about creation. Noah, Abraham, Moses, Samson and more all the way through to the birth and resurrection of Jesus. Don't miss out on this one folks, it's a good one! The only thing I do not like is that it ends kind of abruptly without the boy getting home but the "real" story is completed.

This book was recommend by our daughter's teacher, and while it does contain a lot of the biblical accounts of major events, it is definitely fiction and needs to be read with that understanding. I did not appreciate the overly dark presentations and embellishments of certain events. For example, the account of the Flood includes people basically screaming as they drowned, and Noah having to listen to these people dying from within the Ark. That is not stated in Scripture and it added an element to the story that was unnecessary, especially for children who may not be able to comprehend the wrath of God within His perfectly just and righteous character.After reading it myself, I chose not to read it to my kids. I felt just getting into the Bible and reading these accounts the way God intended was far better than relaying a story that is embellished and at least partly fictional, and then hoping the kids figured out what was true and what wasn't.

The pictures were beautiful and the story told was perfect. The true meaning and reason for Christmas is because we needed a Savior to rescue us from our sins. This book walks through Bible stories like Adam and Eve and Noah but is told in such a captivating way. We will read this every year! I’m not sure who enjoyed it more, my kids or myself!!

I love the way Ruth Bell Graham shares the story of Jesus. Perfect not only at Christmas time but any time of the year. i love that she started it not with the birth of Christ, but the revealing of God's plan from the beginning. At first the story within a story of Anna and Aaron bothered me a little as this is not Biblical. Then as I thought about it I realized it was a good way to engage children to enjoy the book. I would recommand this book to everyone, young and old. Maybe some day i will have grandchildren to share this book with. In conclusion I believe there is no more important book than the Bible and I love Mrs. graham's unique way to tell the Gospel Story.

This is a beautiful Christmas book for children telling the story of God's love for us all. It goes through the bible explaining God's purpose. The illustrations are breathtaking.
