The author sent me an advance copy of this book for review. I was very pleased and impressed, first by the encyclopedic coverage of saunas, from traditional to modern, with chapters on all the parts, pieces, functions and designs. This book is a comprehensive and up-to-date reference manual. You could use it to plan and build a sauna. It would guide you through site planning and architecture, wood and materials selection, proper construction techniques, all the way to how to relax after enjoying your sauna. This is also an art book with beautiful photographs, paintings, illustrations and technical drawings on every topic, from stoves and ventilation to benches and ladles. I particularly enjoyed the author's extensive treatment of sauna relatives, such as Turkish and Roman baths, and his photographs of the range of Finnish saunas, from classic log and sod-covered smoke saunas to the sleek ultra-modern designs. I highly recommend this book.

A superb guide, both inspirational and informative, covering everything from the history of the sauna to its use, its planning, and its detailed construction and fitting-out. The author clearly loves and understands his subject, and has produced an extraordinarily comprehensive, detailed, and richly illustrated textbook.
