An Empress and the Warriors [Blu-ray]

Fantastic movie. Love it.

A chick flick. Sort of. This seems to be a vehicle for Kelly Chen but what I saw was that it was another Donnie Yen film (he is front & center in the credits. I liked it, I didn't like it.WHAT I LIKED:- Good action- Decent character development and a story that tied in.- Good actors- Story moved alongWHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:- Not much action for Donnie Yen. He is a bonafide star so why use him like he is a mere sidekick? And even if he is a sidekick, I want to see more of him. I think he got maybe 20 minutes altogether, it just didn't feel like much and his character was meh .....- Kung Fu (when there was some) was just ok. Too much sword fighting.- Story was not believable. You can't train someone that quickly to be a warrior.- Pushing on us the female "I am woman, hear me roar". As a woman I find it insulting and I'm tired of it. Can't we just all agree that in that era, during that time in history that women just didn't play these roles? It's really ok! No need to impose the agenda on us. Irony: My husband didn't feel the same way, I could just be more sensitive in this area.In the end we agreed it felt more like a chick flick. I heard myself saying more than once "Yeah, right ..." or "Come, on, that's not believable". However, it is fiction. It is a movie. It's supposed to entertain. And it did. It wasn't all fighting but it did feel more like a love story. I did appreciate that they did try to tell a story & I was entertained. Will I watch it again? Meh ....

Not sure if I liked this movie or not. There were a lot of strong themes running through it and a lot of the traditional clichés. "My successor will get revenge!" But they were not the main themes running through this movie. They were more like subtexts. I do not know enough Chinese history to comment on the authenticity of this offering but a lot of it looked and felt more European.Ok onto the what you want to know. Cinematic value was fantastic. Cameras were amazing this should be an HD release. Beautiful cinematic photography. A very idyllic romance between an Empress an a handsome commoner is lovingly portrayed. A dying Emperor passes over a deserving son to make his daughter his successor. His daughter finds a better calling in an ordinary life. I enjoyed the film thoroughly.

I gave this movie a 3 star due tothe uniforms and scenery. Thismovie would be better as a Chinese daytime soap opera on television. A bit slow and foolish. It has Donnie Yen in a lead role and this greatly takes away from the movie. He has been in far too many Hong Kong Chinese movies to the point where it makes the movie not believable or reputable.The movie producers need to try different actors rather than the same old same old.

This is a very good movie from China. Yes it is subtitled but the story is well told, easy to follow and entertaining. Chinese directors and Editors are very good story tellers. The sets, costumes and visuals are spectacular and are every bit as good as any Hollywood film..... I won't give my opinion about the story line that's your job. I will say it does have a fair amount of violence after all it is titled " The Empress and the Warriors" it is also fun and exiting ...... I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy this film. I'm a collector and I'm very happy I added this film to my collection, I wish I could say that about all the movies I own.

Not that enjoyable

An Empress and the Warriors Blu Ray disc arrived earlier than promised,and in excellent condition. All the product description for this disc was veryaccurate, this is important information that I count on before I make a purchase.The disc played without a hitch. The color and sharpness of this movie great, itlives up to the Blu Ray standards. I really enjoy the movie as well, nice story andlots of action. If you are a Donnie Yen FAN, you should get this.

This film has it all, Great Actors, realistic sets, locations & costumes, with a cracking story.The story is quite sad & tragic though. I'm not really into mushy films atall, yet, I found myself really enjoying this film.I would describe it as a historical, Action, Romance, Tragedy. There is nothing flowery about it, yet, it is still moving & emotional.The film deals with the Age long topics of Deceit, treason, conspiracies, age long feuds, battles to defend the land against enemies & betrayal within the Empires etc. In the middle of it all, is the story involving the central characters. The Princess, Her Loyal general, Her traitorous Cousin & the Strange young hermit who lives in the forrest, who she befriends.Basically, the Princess is thrust into ruling the Empire, prematurely. It is up to her General to make sure she can defend herself & is trained well enough to win the respect of her officers & Army & be fit to lead them into battle. To do this, he has to be merciless, even though they have been friends from early childhood.Another twist in the story unfolds as she is undergoing her training..But I'll not say too much on that..Amazing Film..I loved it..Big Thumbs Up

I was most unhappy at the end I was looking forward to a llive happily ever after ending but not so shame but the story the people the costumes and sets were great very pleased wiil have to get the tissues in for the next one thanks

It's about a empress, who had to learn who to fight and her army, after the death of her father, it's a good and emotional story of her life.

The movie is not only great because of the plot, but because it has been filmed in great surroundings with super cinematography. This will be one of the top shelf movies in my Asian collection.
