The only way anybody is writing a negative review on this tanning medical light bulb is because you are PAIL AS A GHOST so knock it off! This bulb does work...I did only two fifteen minute sessions and I had a tan. Actually, it is good to burn the first time because it helps the tan going. If you do burn put pure Aloe Vera on it, do not scratch, and do not tan again until almost healed. It doesn't feel good to burn but if you want to tan so be it. I burned by accident because I had the bulb like 12 feet or so to close. I have further moved it up. The distance is trial and error; really depends on your ethnicity (the color of your skin). Now, get it together people...there is a specific way to operate this bulb and I made the same mistakes the first time I odered the bulb, but for crying out loud I didn't blame the manufacture for my ignorance. Just shut up. First, you don't need the converter if you have an air conditioner because that is what you will use to plug the cord into. Second, you will need the brooder lamp with the ceramic white thing on top that converts the light bulb wattage to 300, you get this at Walmart, but pay attention b/c not all of them have the ceramic piece on top. Finally, you go to Lowes and purchase three items: a very thick black cord that is on the spindle; this cord converts like 220 volts you need it to plug into the air conditioner, ask the electrician (tell him that it is what you need the cord for), you need two ends an innie and an outie for this cord -- you have to look at the air conditioner to see what the plug end holes look like these ends cost around $8-$11 -- (outie)one end will plug into the air conditioner and the other the brooder lamp will plug into the cord(innie). You will have to put these ends on yourself so ask the electrician which color is the ground and the other two don't matter -- don't forget electrical tape and don't allow the wires to touch; remember you can always YouTube. Take the bulb to Lowes and ask the electrician to show you where the two plug ends are and the black cord; they cut the cord for you and you need enough to reach from the air conditioner to where you will set up the tanner; I have a cot set up under my tanner with a sheet that I don't care about because of my oil, remember the two ends are: an (innie and the other an outie). You are creating your own cord to plug into the brooder lamp and from the air conditioner. I am dumb as a rock so if I can do this so can you and it is so worth it. If you are cheap like me and don't want pay for tanning then you will make the effort to do it this way. This bulb helps me with chronic depression and it has helped my muscle and joint disorders. It saves me a lot of money, and it will only cost in power, it is like running the air conditioner in the summer, except only when you tan and you should only be tanning every few days a week for 15 minutes each side or parts. Oh right, buy some tanning goggles while you are on here; do not be around this tanner without them! MY OIL IS MADE UP OF: Organic cooking oil: - extra virgin coconut oil by Wild Oats (Walmart), Olive oil, Castrol Oil, Avocado oil...I use all of this b/c it helps to tan faster. If you look at the back of the dark tanning bottles so do they! You just mix them up evenly.

Not what I hoped!
I tan easily but this is like a heat lamp not a tanning lamp. I can spend 30 minutes or more and at best I'll get pink from the heat but the next day, I'm back to normal color with no advance in tan. I over did it once and turned red and then peeled a week later but no tan. I can go to a tanning bed, spend 20 minutes, and be brown the next day so I don't have a problem tanning but this does NOT tan me at all. The only reason I gave it a 2 star rating is because I can use it to clear up a few blemishes because it will dry out your face when you are having one of those breakout moments. I have even wondered if I received the wrong bulb and this is only a heat lamp bulb and not the tanning bulb that I bought. I have tried several times but no luck. I guess I will keep buying tanning packages. By the way, I usually buy 2-3 tanning packages each year and each package is only 10 tans so I'm not a walking piece of leather which might give the seller an excuse for why I didn't notice a difference in my color. Sorry, but this bulb is only good for drying up zits from and overly stressed face at best! Not worth the money for me.

Love it and works great!
I absolutely love this bulb! Anyone saying that it does not work is simply NOT following the instructions and/or not plugging it in correctly. Ibbought the voltage transformer box and porcelain socket light reflector (both of those on ebay cheaper than Amazon by the way). The first time I sat in front of it for about 30 mins while getting ready and got burned. I even burned my eyeballs because my tanning goggles were in my car. I should've done what other reviewers said to do, however, but somehow forgot all about their tips when I went to lay under it the first time. Like others state- only lay under it for 10-15 mins max the first time and add a little time each time to find your own personal time limit. I tan easy and do not burn easy or at all when I lay the full time in a 12 minute tanning bed with new bulbs, yet I burn easily under this lamp. So use caution and eye protection!!! This bulb is so warm too!! It feels just like laying out in the sun! I definitely recommend it if you are like me and do not get out much in the summer and want to get more Vitamin D, get rid of SAD, and/or just get a little color to your skin!

beware of the power supply.
I must apologize to Bulborama, I first wrote this review saying the bulb didnt work. Having a 300 watt lamp to put it in is not enough. This is designed for 220 volt power. And since houses in America are wired for 110 volt, you will need to convert your power to 220 volt and then plug in a compatible 220 volt lamp rated for 300 watts for it to work. They dont really spell all that out very well for the average person who doesnt know volts, amps, watts, ect. So I still dont like the product because of this, but I suppose if I were living in Europe where this bulb comes from, it would be alot less hassle as you would just need to screw it in your floor lamp and it would work just fine and I would probably like it then. I hope this saves someone else from the headache and wasted money it caused me. Bulborama will refund within 14 days if you send it back in the original box if you make what is apparently a very common mistake. Why cant somebody make a 110 version of this bulb???
