The Giver Quartet 20th Anniversary boxed set Hardcover – November 5, 2013

I love Lois Lowry books even as an adult, and I read all the books in this series before gifting this boxed set to my 11-year-old, avid reader, niece. While the storyline does talk about some darker themes like ostracism, death, cycle of life, I think it portrays them in a way that young adults can understand and deal with. Although the story is fictional, the themes, both good and bad, are part of real life. Very engaging story told through the 4-book series.

For some unknown reason, I haven't done much reading lately. Someone recommended these so I tried the set. It is very good and well worth the time and effort to read. I enjoyed it and at times found it hard to put down. Glad I bought the set. When a friend came over she saw the books sitting on a table and asked if I was finished with it. I said yes and she asked if she could have them? She actually jumped for joy when I said yes.

Excellent series.

Read the giver in high school, I didn't know there was any other books that went with it until I found this set, good to read.

I love these books. They are absolutely wonderful!! I have read them like 20 times.

My daughter requested this for Christmas, and I ordered it for her. I didn't pay too much attention to the author, etc. So recently as I was adding new stuff to my Kindle (I have the app for my Android, hubby has a Kindle Fire HD that he loves), saw the book for Kindle was recommended, and ordered the first in the series (the Giver), then texted my daughter saying "OMG! You have to read this book! It's awesome!" "Uhm, Mom, that's from the book set you gave me, remember?" Duh...A great read, though the first in the quartet, The Giver, may leave some readers wanting. Not unnecessarily an unfinished ending, just leaves the reader to figure things out for themselves. Have already read that one and Gathering Blue, and have just started on The Messenger, which seems to take up years later from "Blue..."
