Wanted (New Printing)

Just plain awesome
From the twisted mind of Mark Millar (The Ultimates, Chosen, The Authority) comes Wanted: a six issue mini-series from Top Cow that is everything a comic should be. Wesley Gibson is down on his luck young man letting society run his life. He's stuck in a dead end job, lives with his cheating girlfriend, abused by his boss, and generally walked all over. Then one day his life changes forever. Wesley learns that he is the son of the Killer, the greatest super villain of all time, and that his father has died and he has inherited everything. Soon enough, Wesley is trained to be the sadistic killing machine that he was always meant to be, and no longer a slave to society. However, Wesley soon learns that there is trouble brewing in the super villain society, and as the secret of his father's death which involves various conspirators unravels, Wesley learns that maybe the last thing he ever wanted in his life was to be wanted. Drawing numerous comparisons to Fight Club, only more nihlistic (if such a thing is possible), Wanted manages to be one of the most insanely darkly humerous and blood curdingly violent comics since Vertigo's Preacher series, and the stunning art of J.G. Jones gives Wanted a cinematic look that is nothing short of incredible. This handsome hardcover TPB of the mini-series is a must have for comic fans who missed out on the single issues, and even though it may be hard to swallow at times (this is definitely not for the faint of heart), this is blockbuster comic storytelling at it's best.

Far better than expected.
I seriously did not know what to expect with this work. I read the other reviews and came to the decision to buy it and review it myself since this book seems to garner such strong reactions.I personally loved this book. Yes, there are no sympathetic characters in it, but that is done by design so I don't know how that could be a legitimate criticism. It's like blaming a horror movie for being too scary. The premise is simple--What kind of world would result from super-villains winning? Is there morality when society treats a privileged few as above the law? There's a lot of depth to this work that casual reading just won't bring out. If you're in any way shocked by violence, this is NOT the comic for you. This is about as violent as it gets. And in some respects, reminds me of the movie Natural Born Killers. People protest the violence in that movie as well, even though the violence was absolutely necessary for the story being told. A more modern example would be No Country For Old Men. Same thing. That doesn't mean I agree with everything this work implies, but it is well done regardless. The main antagonist, for example, becomes so incredibly evil after having a near-death experience where he realized there is no God. I find it a bit offensive that the sudden lack of belief implies instant evil, but the character was a fanatic so the point is dulled a bit.The comedy in this work is so well done. Really good laughs at the absurdity of several DC and Marvel characters warped into this brutal world. The comedy is dark, but dead-on hilarious. Again, you'll probably need a dark sense of humor to appreciate it, and if you don't, you won't like this book. Without the humor relieving the ever present ruthless violence, it simply would not be an enjoyable read. And of course the end was genius. I won't spoil it, but it truly was a clever idea and brilliantly executed in a way I've never seen before. Mark Millar, which I already appreciated as a good writer, has climbed up several notches in my eyes. He takes risks that pay off.So recap:- Don't like violence, don't buy it.- Not for kids at all.- Much deeper than the violence, gross-outs, and sex would suggest.- Full of dark humor rooted in superhero lore.- Brilliant ending.

A good read.
I enjoyed both the film adaption and this, Original concept. I don't consider them the same however, I separate them knowledgeably with the only thing they have in common is, Name sake. The film has the same premise but does it's own thing while the comic blows the films ideas and plot out of this earth creating multi dimensional chaos and murdering mayhem. Both are entertaining, in their own rights. At the end of the day, that's all humans want, entertainment.. Sadly these days everyone is a harsh "professional" critic.. I seen the film before I read this, that being said I still, enjoy both adaptions. Think for yourself, judge for yourself.

Mark Millar arrebenta, sempre
A história é fantástica, me divirto com o Millarworld.

If you like Kick Ass, you'll love this book...
Mark Millar's Wanted ticks all the right boxes. The story makes a good read, the artwork from JG Jones and Paul Mounts is visually beautiful and as a graphic novel is perfectly presented. The graphic collects the six-part series of Wanted originally produced by Top Cow and includes the Wanted Dossier, which introduces the main characters with some beautiful artwork by JG Jones, Jae Lee, Frank Quitely and Brian Michael Bendis, to name just a few.The story itself tells of the fall-out following the death of the Superheroes in 1986, by the Supervillains, and the subsequent death of The Killer and the rise of Wesley Gibson following in his father's footsteps. The Supervillains rule from behind the scenes but Mister Rictus wants that to end. The story comes to a head after a massacre of the Supervillains and a revelation which ensures the destiny of Wesley Gibson.Throughout the novel, there are hints to the Superheroes we are familiar with - Thor, Wonder Woman, Black Widow - but the best hint comes in the form of Adam West and Burt Ward, who played Batman and Robin in the 60's tv series, and their fate with "a good old-fashioned supervillain death trap", old chum.Great stuff and a brilliant read. Maybe a sequel?
