Exactly what I was looking for!
I was so tempting to get Mending Matters, but thankfully I read the reviews closely because Visible Mending covers WAY more fabrics (knits are included!) and techniques, whereas the other book covers, well, jeans and that's it. If you're really looking for ideas and instructions for various types of visible mending THIS BOOK is what you want!I have a feeling that cover photos (yeah, don't judge a book by its cover, right?) are partially to blame for Mending Matters getting better sales. Japanese boro and sashiko techniques are popular and MM has several jeans on the cover showing that - and it looks nice and minimal. For some reason, I really don't dig the cover of VM, as the colorful square looks like a childish patch and you have to look closely to see just how well done the mending square has been done.IN SHORT, BUY Visible Mending for *excellent* usable content and ignore the sub-par cover. Only get Mending Matters if all you're looking for is mending only jeans!!

Looking "cool" at any age!
This is a great book with simple instructions for updating any clothes to hip. I would have paid $150.00 easily for jeans like these. Instead, Jenny, my daughter, incorporated pieces of doilies my mother crocheted years ago and I have an item of clothing that is not only hip; but a part of my heritage. The book "Visible Mending" gives lots of ideas of how to update clothing that may have a hole or rip and end up with something that is timely and fashionable! If you sew at all, buy the book and see how you can recycle clothing and end up looking really in tune with fashion for a lot less tha buying mass produced clothing.

Inspires
To be truthful, there is no technique or instructions in this book that you can't find on the web. It only covers five techniques, and just the basics of those, so you can learn what this book teaches you by doing a basic search. But what this book offers that the web doesn't is inspiration. The photographs just inspired me to go try various things. That I can't find on the web. It's not very thick, instructions are basic at best, it's full color, lots of photographs, printed on good paper.I bought the book as I wanted to do artistic mending, not really to save any garment. I was intrigued by the chapter on darning as I've always heard that term but never really knew what it was. I followed the directions and darned an old knitted afghan that had holes in it. This was my first time ever darning and I found the directions easy to follow. It loses a point for only having the most simplest of instructions. Once the photographs have inspired you to do, for example, boro/sashiko stitching, you will have to go back to the web to get patterns as none are offered. Ditto embroidery and the other techniques discussed. So buy this for inspiration and get your techniques off the web. And start keeping your torn clothes...I had none when this came in and was mad at myself for throwing things out as soon as they rip.

Clear, concise instructions. Not all focus on denim
I got this book only yesterday after a few weeks of dithering over it and a few others. It is short--I read through the entire book last night. BUT, it is packed with clear, concise instructions and pictures, not a word wasted. I love that she writes about materials other (and in addition to) denim because so much of what I had seen focused on jeans and other denim only. Not being much of a jeans wearer I was happy to see examples and discussion about other woven materials as well as knit materials. I learned about some things I can get to help me in my new project of mending an old knit turtleneck. I'm thrilled to have the book and highly recommend it if you want simple, easy to understand language and helpful information.

Highly recommend.
I bought this book to help me fix a sweatshirt that was accidentally splashed with bleach. I love this book. It’s full of wonderful ideas on how to give your clothes a new life. It’s just what I was looking for and more.

Celebrate that mending!
I learned about this book and technique by viewing a Sulky webinar a couple of days ago and ordered this book immediately after the webinar ended. I've mended things most of my life, but I've always tried to make the mending as invisible as possible. This book is an inspiration to embrace the mending and turn it into fun design elements. It's not about perfect traditional embroidery or stitching, it's about using stitches and patches to create visual interest. Some of the repairs are obviously repairs but some just look like part of the design. It's about creating something a little quirky, funky, eclectic, definitely unique. It includes both hand- and machine-sewing techniques and examples. The photos and illustrations are excellent. It almost makes makes me want to find something to mend. I will definitely look at my next mending/patch project from a completely different perspective!

Fresh
Fun and functional mending! Love it ! While I love repurposing clothing, sometimes the garments are ones I just can't bear to part with. Visible mending is fresh and functional

Exactly What I Wanted To Read
This book was so beautifully done. Helped me with a lot of my questions and help guide me towards my methodology.

Disappointed
I deliberated for sometime between this & Mending Matters. This has some ok, basic stuff which covers a range but much smaller & thinner than I was expecting. Also it contained nothing I hadn’t already seen on Instagram.

Tolles Buch
Ich bin begeistert, endlich kann ich Kleidungsstücke die ich lieb gewonnen habe, auch mit kleinen Makeln noch weiter tragen oder sogar zum Hingucker machen.
