Timeless message for blended families
Even though it's kidlit, parents should read this book. It's told from a young boy's perspective. His mom remarries and he feels as though he loses everything. And, he kind of does. His privacy. His own bedroom. The compassion of his mother. Will something happen to change his mind about his pesky little step-brother? Read and find out. A great read for all ages due to the timeless theme.

Hope and healing
A good friend of mine ( an adolescent counselor I have known from my school nursing days) asked me to help her do some book reviews she thought might be helpful for her 'kids.' I would recommend this book for any child, whether adjusting to divorce/remarriage or perhaps just wanting to understand a friend's experience. Actually, it might help a parent, as well. As adults we too easily forget the intensity of the feelings we had as kids, focusing instead on what we know or think we know is best "in the long run" for our children. This book provides good insights into the experience of one such boy who had to deal with those intense feelings and 'adjust' to the expectations of the adults in his life. There was no fairytale ending, but the reality that adjustment to change is, after all, an ongoing process at any age. The book left the reader with a feeling of hope and healing, which is a win in my opinion. I would recommend this book to all.
