Use on firm surface
I love, love, love this tool. I bought it 2 yrs ago for releasing my own sub-occipital muscles. I have been recommending this product to my sports massage clients ever since. It is lightweight and convenient for travel yet dense and durable for daily use.The only caveat I would mention is that you absolutely need to use this on a firm surface. Using it on a soft surface like a massage table or bed just isn’t going to work because the tool will roll.* I have also used this tool to release my iliopsoas.

Hurts so good
I have chronic neck pain because of my TMJ. I have been having terrible headaches that make normal life impossible. I've tried so many things- from hardcore pills including muscle relaxers, pain killers, anti-depressants and a cocktail of anti-imflamitores, trigger point massage, dental splints and physical therapy to the tune of $200 per session. The pills didn't do much. The massage helped a lot, the therapist helped a bit. But I couldn't afford to be on their table twice a week. I came across this thing as a happy accident just by scrolling around for pain relief tools.Out of the box, it didn't have an odor, it didn't have much else either as far as instructions. The first time I tired this thing, I found it uncomfortable. I used a thick towel over it to make it slightly more comfortable, and really just tried to relax. Funny thing about chronic pain, is that different pain or mild uncomfortableness is a welcome change. I got this the night before a 7 day camping trip, and I figured I was doomed to spend the entire trip in the tent with an ice pack over my face. I packed the DaVinci Tool and figured I'd give it shot. I also packed my arsenal of pills.I spent probably a few minutes each night, increasing more each night over the camping trip. It hit just the right area in my upper neck and after the initial uncomfortableness, it actually started feeling good. Happy to admit I am a week without any of my pills, and I have no Physical Therapy or deep tissue massages in the calendar. I still get some tension, and it just means it's time to take a break and use my new tool. While this works for me, everyone's level of uncomfortableness varies. If you think you might be sensitive, try making a peanut out of two tennis balls and some duct tape. Use that for a bit, and eventually, upgrade to this device. In all- this thing has an adjustment period that can be uncomfortable to mildly painful but once your body learns how to use this tool, it does it's job well.

Good for neck, not so good for rest of back.
So far, I've used the softer (red) of the two. I'm a (retired) massage therapist and have issues with tight neck muscles. This works good for placing (while lying on your back) immediately under the skull to help release, stretch, relax those muscles. This will give most people a good bit of relief from normal everyday tightness from reading, looking at a computer, muscular-tension headaches, etc. You can also position this lower down the neck. still why lying on your back, to stretch out the muscles that attach to the spine all the way down the neck. I found it a bit hard to position correctly for use on the upper back, however. A handle or strap might be a good addition for making positioning easier. It gets easier to use it at the lower level (lumbars) but the red one started to bend slightly when I started to ease my body weight onto it so I ceased. I haven't tried the blue one yet but suspect it will hold up better under the weight - but may feel uncomfortable due to its more rigid makeup. Due to small size, it really was uncomfortable using around the hip joint - a softball still works better for me there. Due to the triangular shape, the stability makes for a good way to put pressure on the bottom of the feet. I would use this for trigger point work but not for a relaxing foot massage.

Muscle Knot Killer
Easiest $22 I’ve ever spent. This is by far the most effective solution for muscle knots I’ve found other than professional help, chiropractor, massage. I’ve had limited success applying pressure with tennis balls, corners, canes, stretches. A friend of mine introduced me to the DaVinci Tool. Within 10 seconds of laying my back/shoulders on it I knew it was going to work for me. I felt some sensations I’ve lost return to my right hand. Instant order.I’ve been dealing with muscle knots that have been affecting my ability to play instruments for about two years after some stress injury/strain. This tool means a lot when it comes to continuing what I love to do as well as general wellness. My shoulder hasn’t felt so good in a couple of years. The tool is good quality and light weight. Definitely well designed, every side serves multiple purposes.Find some good stretches that work for you and give this tool a try. I will be recommending DaVinci Tool to a lot of people. Thank you for providing me some much needed relief at long last!
