Works OK for my purpose...
I'm using two of these lights with 40 watt LED PAR 16 flood lamps to reflect light of off the walls when watching a wall mounted plasma TV.I have the lights sitting on the floor, pointed at the back of stereo speakers and then the light reflects on the walls on both sides of the screen. The brightness is just right and no light reflects off of the screen or the shiny bezel of the TV.What you need to know is that the ball that holds the bulb just sits loose in the base, the power cord provides some tension to keep the ball from moving. Now in my case this didn't matter, I could just move the whole device to aim the light, but if you thought you could precisely aim the bulb in the stand you can't without moving the base to what ever angle you require. Also the black plastic surround was broken on arrival in one of the lamps, so I just removed the one in the other lamp and the PAR 16 bulb fits fine.So if you want to have the base parallel to something and think you can twist the bulb holder and it will stay put, forget about it. If the light will be out of sight or it doesn't matter how you position it, then it's fine.Overall construction seemed OK, power cord and switch seem like good quality, not flimsy.

Kenroy Home Orb not really a spot light
This is a little ball (maybe 4" or so in diameter) with one side open and a ceramic socket for a medium based bulb in the opening. There is a "baffle" (stair step looking thing) around the opening like you would see on most can lights, the purpose of which I believe is to reduce glare. The ball is separate from the base, connected only with the power cord that runs from the ball through the base. The base is a bent sheet of light gauge metal (steel I assume) with a hole cut in it. The hole has a rubber insert to separate the metal of the base from the metal of the ball.Aiming the light is achieved by turning the ball however you want, freely, in the hole. The only limitation is the cord between ball and base. I'm pretty sure any combination is achievable so it should work for any spot you need to shine on any other spot. It's all feels very solid and well constructed. Looks very nice and wouldn't seem out of place in most settings. If you look at the brushed stainless one there the picture shows it with a bulb. A medium based incandescent light bulb sticks out so that end of the bulb is about flush with the edge of the opening in the ball. If using a medium based ccfl the tip of that sticks out beyond the ball. This results in a very wide "spot light" that is pretty much 180 degrees. For my purposes it is way too wide of a light pattern and not what I was expecting at all. Other than the fact that it's not a "spot" in my terms, it's a pretty cool little light. I'm planning on keeping it and trying to work it in somewhere because it's pretty slick.

Great design and price.
Great lamp for the price. Nice design. The bulb it comes with it is a low energy one that sticks way out and looks a bit weird. I tried a couple of other bulbs and decided the best solution is a PAR16. Is unobtrusive and beam light focus. Works well with a dimmer. Despite the bulb I mentioned earlier, I still give 5 stars for design and price.

Not what I expected...
Maybe I was trying to get too creative with the lighting in my room... and after viewing several photos - not only on Amazon, I felt deceived regarding the actual size of the spotlight. These are not really effective for true lighting... but more add ambiance to a room. I had intended to use two of these to light up my room, but for the light to actually be bright enough, the bulb sticks so far out, it takes away from the modern look I was trying to achieve. They are about the size of a grapefruit to give you some perspective. I will use them.. just as I said to add ambiance to a dinner party or get together at my place... nothing more..And that being said I continue my quest for the perfect light for my room...

Great product!
This lamp is exactly what I needed. My living room has no overhead light and this was the perfect size and shape to set atop a bookshelf to direct light toward the ceiling for a nice ambiance. I am seeing some poor ratings and when I read them, they complain about the size. The dimensions for any product in this category can be found in the product details section on the product page. Impossible to focus the lamp holder in desired direction
When you look at this lamp, the first impression is that the spherical bulb holder can be aimed in nearly any way the user chooses. The globe-like socket holder just rests in the base with no complicated hardware. In fact though, the lamp is nearly impossible to aim as per user choice because the super-stiff electrical cord will not cooperate. The wire gauge is too big to allow the cord flexibility and it resists all attempts to beat it into submission. You get the light where you want it and then - dang - the globe goes right back to where it was just previously positioned.Other issue is the size of the globe. If you use a super small LED mini-flood that's only about 2" long, including the socket, the front face of the bulb stays below the rim of the opening in the fixture. That makes for a discrete deployment in SOME cases, nut not many. If you want to put the fixture under a palm or ficus, crank up the big hair band compilations and party like you are did in the 80's, you have a winner here. For that use the lamp will work fine. For nearly all other uses the limitations of the design are a deal killer - at least for me.Better to just get one of the ones that look like a small tin can on a pivoting base and you'll be far happier. This one is going back to Amazon.
