Goog concept, not so good execution
The very idea of alien organizm organisation is interesting and truly frightening. Not much it is said on its origin or destination. Maybe such approach adds to the atmosphere, but it would be nice to get some clues.... Unfortunately, the author completely lacks the idea how industrial, research or even military facilities operates. That makes most of the scenes look rather unrealistic or even idealistic, sort of "zombies are rushing my closet". Also, the author should have some basic knowledge on what is "gamma radiation" and its impact. Weak characters are yet another problem: motivation, character development and personality. The last episode, with a teenage like assault team on suicide mission is no match at all to the sci-fi endings "standards" like Ripley escape from Aliens movies or novelization. Good luck with next novels!

It was okay. Not amazing, not horrible. Buy kindle version.
I have mixed feelings. I liked it because there were several moments i had goosebumps and got spooked by the writing, which I think is hard to do. Maybe bad because it switched perspectives so much and characters so much (but maybe not bad - showed the flow of infection?), however it was good because the flow from one story to the next was smooth and new characters were quickly and easily introduced. I liked it over all - but this is not a real 400 page book. Font is large, every chapter (and there's like 50) has a blank page at the end and half page before the chapter starts. They clearly manipulated the book physically to make it seem like a longer/detailed read; I read this in a few days easily. The story was good and unique enough, but some of the parts were repetitious. My end feelings are: this is a book I wish I had bought in its cheaper kindle form; its not one I care to add to my collection, but was a good read.

Not My Thing
I am a fan of Darcy Coates, but I am not a fan of science fiction. I am sure I bought this book on the strength of the author's name and not on the book description. This looks like too many old late night horror shows and reminds me of a 40's serial I saw during my younger days attending Saturday morning kids shows at the theater. The idea of an alien taking over one's body (TV show "The Invaders") is not new, the idea probably goes back to the beginning of science fiction in print and in film. While I read the book, I looked forward to getting finished and out of the book. The ending leaves the author open for more of these books, so I will have to be careful not to buy a sequel.

Is that your colleague or is a parasite wearing your colleague's skin?
I understand this book was first published as a serial story. Since I'm an impatient person, I'm glad that I read this after it was gathered together into one book with five parts. One thing I noticed right away in this book is that there are a lot of strong female protagonists. I appreciated that. Each segment (novella) of this story takes place on different stations across space that humans have colonized. Some of the stations are very small and some are huge. Then unexpected, unwanted visitors in the form of slimy bioforms start hitching rides to these station on meteors, asteroids, or what have you. That's when the horror starts.I liked the different viewpoints from each of the five sections. I enjoyed the characters. And the monsters were scary. I enjoyed the book...and again, I'm glad I got to read it all at once rather than waiting for installments.

"They steal our skins"
I wasn't familiar with this author and didn't know what to expect when I picked this one up. But the plot summary touched on one of my favorite themes. It was horror/scifi about humans fighting a terrifying alien menace, a la "Aliens" and "The Thing". Coates gives us a series of connected stories in a shared universe where humanity has set up distant outposts and colonies through out the galaxy. One by one, we watch as a terrifying parasite begins to spread through the outposts in a matter of weeks and the central government is left reeling. Lots of action, exceptional characters (most of who are female) and an awesome read.

its ok
I have enjoyed all of Ms Coates book that I have read thus far. Her Ghost stories give me goose bumps and rattle me at times to the point of scaring the be jeebies out of me. However being a SciFi fan and having read many this one just didn't have the oomph it could have. The first part of the book bounces from one space station to another without letting the reader know what happened to the characters. It's not a bad book but in my opinion she should stay with ghost stories and keep scaring me with them.

A fast and entertaining read ;)
I have liked everything written by this author, so even though this book seemed to differ than her other paranormal stories I felt it was worth picking up. I was right! It isn't a deep thought-provoking Science-Fiction book, but does a good job at being what it is, a horror involving parasitic alien life forms. Very entertaining! I got pulled out of the story every time a new station got introduced because new characters where also introduced at this time, but Darcy is good at getting you attached to her characters and it didn't take more than a couple of pages to get back on this roller coaster ride. I did wish that all the characters that had survived other stations would have made it back into the storyline at some point, but even so it was a very fun and fast read.

Unusual Writing Style, But Good
This book is written somewhat differently from other books. You will have a handful of chapters from one POV, then it switches to someone else. You never get back to the previous characters. I'll admit that in the beginning it was frustrating and I almost quit. However, the book got more interesting as it went on, and I got used to the writing style. This book is at a bargain price, and it is worth spending a buck or two on it for sure. I enjoyed the book. Lots of action and good characters.

Watch the people close to you...
A fun sci-fi monster romp which I quite enjoyed. it reminds me of the sci-fi books back from the 50's / 60's. The parasites themselves are well thought out and quite nasty and the response from Earth Gov was fairly realistic as well. A good read for a holiday, long flight etc.
