Must have for towing
Using under my Dodge with 47RE in conjunction with a tube and fin in the grill. Fan moves a ton of air, there is a 40 degree difference in the temp after passing through the cooler according to the IR gun. Absolutely necessary on these trucks when towing 14K lbs. Temps are manageable now in low speed traffic when there is not enough air passing over the grille. I was considering a less expensive version, but I figure it's still cheaper than a new transmission.

Cools my tranny oil about 20 degrees.
I really like this cooler. I used it in a Dodge Cummins diesel to reduce temps in a 68 RFE tranny towing a 15,000 lb 5er . After talking to many people regarding coolers and how to install them, I chose this plumbed with stainless 10 AN lines and fittings to prevent too much tranny oil flow restriction. I wired it so it works off a temp probe in the hot tranny cooler line and also to turn it on manually from the cab. It drops my temperatures about 20 degrees. I mounted it in the airflow under the truck so the oil gets cooled even without the fan on. In fact, it works so well that it turns on before I would manually just glancing at the tranny temp gauge. My temperature probe is set to 180 on 160 off.

Don't be afraid of the price or installation
You get what you pay for. And this product is worth the money. If you can go 70 MPH all the time then don't need one of these because there's enough air flowing through the stock tranny cooler to cool it properly.I pull a 12,000 5th wheel and the tranny can get hot (220+) going through the mountains in the summer. This Derale Hyper Cool is their top of the line in cooling protection.I had it installed on my 2008 Ford F250 diesel pickup's transmission, underneath and above the rear axle. The tranny lines coming from the truck were tapped into and run to the unit and back to the tranny.I also installed a manual switch in the cab to control the fan coming on. You can also install an inline automatic heat switch but I would not recommend the Derale brand because the one I put in only lasted one trip. I bypassed it with the manual switch on the dash.I monitor tranny temp via an aftermarket tuner. With this unit installed the tranny temps have come down by at least 10 to 20 degrees going through the mountains and during "normal" traffic driving, where there's not a lot of air flowing across the stock cooler in the front of the truck, this unit picks up the slack and keeps the tranny much cooler. If you're handy or have a good shop mechanic this is not a difficult installation. You'll need some hose and tie wraps and a sturdy bracket to mount the unit to the truck's frame. You'll also be adding a couple of quarts of tranny fluid to adequately fill the lines and cooler. It's well worth the extra money to install this unit as it provides peace of mine when towing big loads.

A fan and its foam
I use this as an aux cooler for a 07 ram transmission for a while now.It works great except for one tiny thing. It has some foam stripping between the shield and the cooler to what I assume is to promote airflow for the fan.Problem is the adhesive sucks and it got sucked into the fan. Queue terrible noises. Other than that, great cooler and fan.

Perfect for transmission
Installed this unit on my 12V cummins. I needed some extra cooling for my transmission and this little unit gets the job done. Easy to install and worth the money

Keeps Transmission Cool
I'm using this in conjunction with a mishimoto factory replacement cooler on my 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 SRW 4X4. The Mishimoto alone kept the transmission about 10 degrees cooler on highway/roads. This cooler bumped cooling efficiency off road, where the Torque Converter slips and generates heat in the fluid. Very satisfied with this product.

MAX cooling Acheived
I was having problems with the cooling of a 4L85E in my c10 LS swap. With an 8 pass cooler the temps would get up into the 220's which is a quick death for a transmission. With this cooler the temps have never gotten above 178f even while towing 8000lbs over 300 miles. If you want to solve all of your transmission cooling problems this is it.Added note for those considering. The cooler is actually -10an in size but comes with reducers for -8an in and out. Also the fan is a pusher fan. Meaning it sucks air thru the cooler and out the side the fan is mounted.

First Class Oil Cooler
Purchased this with the Derale 35026 Cooler Thermostat to control oil temps in a Class 5 VW Off Road car. It's a rugged and efficient product. I look forward to years of use.
