The Mummy at the Dining Room Table: Eminent Therapists Reveal Their Most Unusual Cases and What They Teach Us About Human Behavior

The resounding theme and best therapeutic intervention is active listening
The Mummy at the Dining Room Table was amusing and kept my interest peaked. Well -written. The resounding theme and best therapeutic intervention is active listening, trust, empathy and "to be present and listen to your patients." These attributes have been the most effective in working w/ difficult/unusual cases. We can learn a great deal from our clients- the perseverance, survivorship skills, and let’s face it, GRATITUDE! And, many years can pass and some will remain in contact; some we will never forget.

Creativity and the human side of therapy
As well as a previous work of these authors (Creative breakthroughs in Therapy), this is a very interesting book. It showcases success stories (and a couple of failures) that provide a wide scope of interventions to the reader. The common denominator of these clinical cases is thinking outside the box and the human involvement of therapists who work hard to make solutions available to their clients. Especially recommended are the chapters with the interviews with Isoo Kim Berg and William Glasser.

A must read for a mental health professional
A must for any therapist or mental health professional. More examples of "are you kidding me"...but in our line of work, we know they aren't kidding! Thankful a friend passed the title on to me.

Funny, educational, challenging!
This book is hilarious as well as fascinating, with its look into how the most prominent psychological practitioners conceptualized and treated their most memorable cases. I admit to being rather a voyeur when it comes to other therapists. I'm always interested in how others handle this challenging yet rewarding vocation.
