This book is helping our daughter have a better life
This book has been so helpful for our family; it is hard to really do justice to the tremendous impact it has had on our lives in a few short months. Our daughter had a difficult birth and a long stay in the hospital, during which they made many terrifying predictions about her future. We refused to accept them, knowing that healing had to be possible.I first found Dr. Doidge's book The Brain That Changes Itself and was fascinated! But this book, The Brain's Way of Healing has been even more powerful for us. In it, Dr. Doidge shares amazing stories of recovery and healing with a variety of methods and treatments. I feel like every chapter brought us new ideas. Dr. Doidge is brilliant, and also a gifted writer. I consider this book a masterpiece, not only of hope and progress, but of the human experience. His chapter about the life and work of Moshe Feldenkrais and Elizabeth is a masterpiece alone. I came to feel a deep appreciation for Moshe Feldenkrais and the people he helped in his lifetime. And even beyond his lifetime now in the help his work has brought for our daughter.I felt particularly drawn to the Feldenkrais method after reading this book. Really, the method was the answer to what I had been searching for but didn't know what to call it. I searched online and found a Feldenkrais practitioner who now comes to our home and works with our daughter. The changes have been marvelous.I was also very interested in the stories Dr. Doidge shares about the work of Paul Madaule at The Listening Centre in Toronto. I contacted the Centre directly soon after reading this book, and just returned from our first visit there. It is amazing. Dr. Doidge speaks highly of Paul Madaule in this book, and every bit of it is well deserved. Paul genuinely cares for children, and The Listening Centre in Toronto is a treasure of warmth and care for children. And they have a method that really works. We have pursued many different treatments, often traveling for them, and the deep care we received at The Listening Centre is beyond amazing. Paul's work is a gift, and his insights are incredibly powerful. Our daughter is making progress thanks to his work and the work of those at the Centre, but we also feel so refreshed and alive. Truly a gift. I would not have learned about The Listening Centre if I had not read about it in Dr. Doidge's book. I am so grateful.I have read at least 60 books in this arena, usually focusing on a specific area or modality of healing. This book is the most powerful I have read. Not only because of the ideas Dr. Doidge puts forth, but because of the variety of treatments that are discussed. Many doctors or experts know about one field, and they may know it very well - but Dr. Doidge knows so many fields; this book is truly informative. The ideas we have learned from this book are having a tremendous impact on the healing of our daughter. And even though I find it a very accessible read - each time I read it again I learn something new, pick up another idea. The first time I read the chapter about Feldenkrais and his work with Elizabeth, I was intrigued by his observation of how tight Elizabeth's achilles tendons were, and how it hurt when she tried to move her legs. And that if they could get that to soften, she could progress. Our daughter's legs had been tight and she had not wanted to roll over or try to crawl. Such a simple idea, and yet it had never occurred to me (or any of the many professionals we were working with). I immediately began to massage her heels, and by the next morning her legs were significantly looser. Astonishingly looser. We had had a wonderful massage therapist working with us, who had seen her the day before and during that time had spent several minutes just trying to gently loosen up her toes with massage because they were so tight. After my excited text messages he returned the next day and was also amazed at how her legs were now loose and free. Here we had had a very gifted massage and body work person working with our daughter (and we still have great appreciation for his work) but the simple insight of Feldenkrais about the tight tendons impeding development as shared through Dr. Doidge's book made a significant difference essentially overnight. This is just one small example of how the things we've learned in this book are helping our daughter; and in this book we have learned many. This book is tremendous. Thank you Dr. Doidge.

This book IS remarkable and unforgettable. You will want to read it many times over and share it with everyone.
This is one of the best books i ever read. Definitely a page turner. To support this claim i suggest you just read all the amazing reviews on it (pages of them in the front of the book). I thought it might be dry and uninteresting but i bought it for the knowledge in it, without concern for how it read. Since it is subject matter I have always wanted to know more about and read everything i can about it. Then i found it is indescribably well written but is more than that. The author went to such great lengths to get accurate and true information and actual and true individual stories on every topic he covers and then writes so eloquently about it all. I never sent my family a book that they read and liked so i almost gave up on getting books for them. Then after reading this one i just wanted them to have it to for the information in it and even if they just used it as a resource ...and within days both my brother and his wife told me and everyone else they talked to ..to read it and raved about how interesting and informative it is and how they too didn't want to put it down. They are still telling people that and it's at least a year later. Check the inside of table of contents as this book covers everything that you can imagine about brain and body diseases and maladies and cures for all of them and with totally legitimate and well sourced information. Most of the treatments written about are covered in more detail and with better depth in understanding than other books i have read. It covers some of the newest technology and other approaches both new and old that most have never heard of..and yet are more effective than what we do know about and use. The chapters on music and sound for ADHD , ADD, and other conditions were so profound and such heartfelt and enjoyable reading that i want to reread them many times over. Those chapters and the one about Feldenkrais himself and his work , along with the final chapters ...were my favorite..but i loved the entire book...I have recommended though that people start with chapter 5 and then go forward and then come back to read 1 through 4. Only because it gets most exciting with 5 and all of them after...where as 1 though 4 might not be much less for some who are very well read already in what those chapters cover...but after you are so filled with awe from the ones i suggest reading first...you can enjoy coming back to the less exciting ones later. I also suggest this because some who read slow actually did get bored and gave up on this book when they only read the first few chapters and didn't know how much more profound the rest are...Others tho were in awe from the beginning so it's an individual thing with that part of the book but NO ONE I KNOW didn't completely love from chapter 5 on to the end. I wish all teachers and doctors would read this. Actually everyone should read it . It would hugely impact the health care and education system and families struggling with children or older family members suffering with things that we do have ways to heal and/or change how we work , educate, adapt to them and help them...and these options are NOW available and applicable and more easily employed if more people just knew about them.

VERY KNOWLEDGABLE INFORMATION…..ALTERNATE TREATMENT FOR MEDICAL ISSUES
Received this hardcover book the very next day! Absolutely new….not a mark on it! For me, it is needing to cope with pain, insomnia, anxiety, for example…..and using my brain to help me overcome these issues without having to take medication or, as much medication. There are true stories in this book of people, including physicians who have used these techniques. The information is given in medical terms as well as layman's language. One would have to be willing to put some time and effort into reading the information and trying out some of these ideas.

Brilliant
As usual Norman Doigde is fascinating, informative, very readable for non-experts as well as experts, one wishes to be able to sit down and read from cover to cover in one long go....but for most of us there are other things that take us away from the book, that need our attention....but we will go back to it again and again. The book answers many of my questions and is in my case extremely helpful ......
