PITSMASTER DIGITAL THERMOSTAT KIT REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR TRAEGER PELLET GRILLS

Install was easy enough. Smoking a brisket today with temp set on 225. I've seen 184 and 261 on the display. Compared to the Traeger digital controller it replaced, this is terrible at controlling temps. The Traeger controller went bad and I decided to replace the entire controller and sensor. This Pitsmaster is nowhere near as good at controlling temps as the Traeger unit. Thats an 80 degree swing and I'm sure I didn't see the peak or trough of temps. This thing is worthless.Edit - new Traeger controller arrived and I decided to do a back to back test. Used the Pitsmaster temp probe for both, making it an apples to apples test. Logged temps with Igrill Bluetooth probe which I have verified as accurate with boiling water and graphed it. You can see the Pitsmaster is all over the place. Huge swings back and forth for two hours and got worse, not better. Full shut down and cool off until Traeger was at ambient temp, swapped to the Traeger controller and started up exactly the same way. Smoke setting until rolling well, set temp to 225. As soon as temp hit the set temp of 225, started the monitoring just like the first test. Traeger goes up and down a lot less while finding the sweet spot and then really stabilized. The Traeger was never as far as 15 degrees off target temp at its worst while the Pitsmaster spent a lot of time further out than that and reached a high of 83 degrees above set temp. Both tests were with the same temperature probe, same pellets, back to back on same March in Florida day. This thing is horrible. Posting pics of both graphs. Just buy the Traeger controller. I know this thing is cheap, but it is not worth it.

This controller has made a big difference in controlling the temperature set-point over the stock controller. The new controller holds temp 5-10 degrees +/- whereas the stock controller was 25 */-.Easy 15 minute installation but could have been 5 minutes if it was not for the zip-ties holding the mass of wires together. I wish I purchased this last year.

The kit is well done. The wires are well color coded and the unit fits well. It took some time to get everything installed, but once completed, it looks great. The unit is not as accurate at keeping the temperature at an even level. Usually it will hit the temp, then lag by as much as 50 degrees before hitting it again. Meaning that if I set it to maintain a temp of 375, it will hit the temp (or get very close), but will then begin to cool until the unit gets to around 325 before it will add more pellets and climb again to 375. Then repeats. So my temp is constantly falling and then climbing again as much as 50 degree cycles during every cook. I feel this is much too large of a range in temp fluctuations and the unit should have been able to control the overall temp to a much smaller range of only 10-15 degrees.

This controller will not go thru the hole in the case. It is physically too big. Also the connectors for the temperature sensor are junk and it's difficult to tighten them up enough to hold the wires without breaking the connector off the circuit board..I bought a Traeger original controller and it also does not fit my grill. I suspect this is not compatible with the older model.After using my angle grinder in the grill I was able to use this controller. This went from a 15 minute job to over an hour and a half.If you have an older Traeger grill I would suggest you not upgrade to this style controller. Stick with the one without the 2 temperature probes.

From reading other reviews I was nervous about fitting into my Traeger, but it went perfectly. The install was easy, quick and most importantly, worked! I used this to replace a controller that went bad.It would have been nice to have instructions about the operation of the controller with 2 external temp probes (the original didn't have any), but it became intuitively obvious after a few minutes of pushing buttons.Overall, excellent purchase and would highly recommend it.

Upgraded my 10 year old texas grill, the largest texas model, was an easy installation, no mods needed and came with 2 meat probes and a new temp probe too. Havent tried the meat probes yet but did 2 big racksof spareribs yesterday and they came out great and held temps closer to set temps than the old ortech controller it had in it that lasted around 3 years.

Make sure you read what grill it fits. I did. It realize it did not fit the Traeger JR. I am sure it works great, I wish I could enjoy the 2 meat probes when smoking. It fit fine in my brothers smoker and works quite well. It it exactly as described.

I like the probe feature, it is easy to install, and the thermostat seems to be well made... but it doesn't fit my older Traeger. I have had to Dremel out the thermostat opening quite a bit to allow this to fit. It doesn't slide in at an angle like the original did.
