Penguin: Cute, quiet and functional.
This is a quiet and an easy to use humidifier. I use Culligan FM-15A Level 3 Faucet Filter to fill up the water everyday. Although, I still have to buy vinegar to clean it, it's working great!!! The mist formation and emission is instantaneous. The moment you turn it on, cool mist is dispensed into the air. I was worried that since no hot/warm mist is dispensed, it might make me feel chilly or make the temperature of the apartment go down, but it do any of that. The mist is more helpful, invisible and a silent companion spread in the house than a continuous source of noise and uncomfortable cold air blower. There is a continuous (not discrete) control system knob that you can turn to get the desired level of mist-dispensing.The head of the penguin is loosely fit, so it falls off if I forget to remove it before tilting the upper body to fill with water. However, the head has it's own use, you can tilt it in any direction and the mist will flow out from that direction. Also the beak of the penguin that vents out the mist is titled upwards, so it makes sure that the mist is dispensed at an elevation.I have keep it on my wooden desk right in front of my face to add additional elevation and direct exposure, however, as the mist falls on the desk too, I am afraid that due to excessive mist, the wood may expand and loose it's shape.I live in a tiny 320 sq feet studio but the humidifier isn't quite upto the task to keep the whole unit humid. I find it much easier to work when it's right on my desk and then much easier to sleep when it's near my bed. Maybe because it's too dry in here in Pittsburgh and I have excessive dryness and allergy problems that no amount of drinking water or lathering up of hydrating/oily lotions help. There is always static electricity popping whenever I touch anything metallic! So, I will need to buy another one of these. I am excited about this, cz they are not very expensive and they look cute!In terms of cuteness of model design, penguin was over-hyped, so I didn't really find it that adorable. It's like a fat, unshapely, too much white and hard Bakelite (plastic that can't be remolded - like the switchboard-material) that looks more like a big dough-kneading machine than a cute penguin. Although, it's just a machine and I shouldn't really complain about aesthetic aspect, but I saw a video on y o u t u b e showing the elephant one, it looks so so so much cuter and adorable in person! Also, the elephant one has the snout/trunk up, so the mist will be dispensed up much higher up in the air, which is all the more desirable. I am definitely gonna buy that one soon!Overall, I think this is the best kind available for the humidifier in terms of its excellent design and value for money.

Adorable and simple to set up!
I got this as a Sanrio lover who not only has asthma, but has a cat with allergies. The mist is nice and cool and really helps my dry bedroom. Cat is a bit scared of it but it is very quiet so she isn't too offput by it. Nice size and good performance!

Adorable and effective
I originally decided to get a humidifier to help with nighttime congestion. I didn't realize how much it would help my dry mouth. I decided on a Crane humidifier after quite a bit of research. I liked that Crane uses BPA and phthalate-free plastics, as well as silver technology in their plastics. I had several questions about the product so I called the company directly and found them very helpful, which helped to sway my decision. While this humidifier takes up a fair amount of space, it is quite light in comparison to many others. I have C-spine nerve compression, tendinitis, and carpal tunnel in both arms so the weight of something I have to carry back and forth to the bathroom every day was a big factor. I only run the humidifier at night and every day, yes, EVERY day I empty both the tank and the basin. It's a huge pain but it's far better than developing mold and bacteria. Once per week I clean both the tank and the basin with a white vinegar/water mixture, as directed by the company. I have had no issues with bacteria or mold. The one challenge with this humidifier is the quality of my water. This is an ultrasonic humidifier and using hard water in it can create scale and white dust. Scale is a white, chalky buildup on the inside of the humidifier, caused by minerals in hard water. Scale isn't harmful but too much buildup will decrease the efficacy of the humidifier. Cranes sells a demineralization filter that is supposed to help but needs to be replaced monthly. Using distilled water completely eliminates scale but can get very expensive. My water is moderately hard so I don't have a ton of scale buildup or white dust but I do have some. Scrubbing the areas inside the humidifier where the scale builds up with a toothbrush and white vinegar seems to be doing the job for now. The only real issue I have with white dust is on the top of the humidifier, the ears. So far, wiping that area down with a paper towel dampened with white vinegar is taking this. I think as long as I do this weekly I won't need the filter or distilled water. However, I wanted to mention this because if you're new to humidifiers and haven't done your research, you might be quite confused or upset. Overall, I am quite happy with this humidifier and it meets my needs. Oh, and it's adorable! Why go with some ugly, blocky box on your bedside table when you can have an owl or an elephant or a dragon?

I bought this model 10 years ago.
I bought this make and model humidifier for my son's room 10 years ago. After that time it was still functioning but a bit louder and not putting out the same level of moisture. This new one is as quiet as you would want for a child's bedroom but works well enough to use in the main living area of the house, which is where we use it, I'm glad I decided to buy a replacement 'Mr. Penguin'.

I love how I can adjust the quantity of mist coming ...
This is the second animal humidifer I've bought from Crane. It works perfectly! I love how I can adjust the quantity of mist coming out. It's powerful and can boost up the humidity level of a regular bedroom fast. It can contain a good quantity of water so I only need to refill the water about once a day. I will repurchase again for sure!

Works a charm. Heads-up: mineral filter seems required for hard water and (optional) Crane-branded cleaner not easy to find.
I'm very pleased with this humidifier after using it for one month, non-stop and daily, to help my extremely dry eyesIt quietly pumps out moisture and, at the highest setting, I fill it 2x per day. A red light noiselessly and mildly signals when it's empty. The small green light which signifies that the unit is on is unobtrusive at night (and I'm sensitive to light at night).Filling the tank from a bottle of water (as was my habit with my previous humidifier) is awkward, but the task is easily accomplished at a sink. (And I've used both the bathroom and kitchen sinks to fill it.)The unit is fairly easy to keep clean by emptying and wiping the basin with each refill, per instructions. In addition, I've used the Crane branded cleaner and a toothbrush weekly for more intense cleansing. On a side note, I'm glad I chose a light coloured animal (Sheep) unit because the light colour makes it easy to see where to clean.I give it 5 stars but with 2 FYIs:1. The instruction book says "filtered or distilled water is recommended". In contrast, the inside flap of the box has a "no" circle sign over a graphic labeled "minerals" and says "Use filtered water or Crane Demineralization Filter" which strongly suggests that a filter is required. Thus I bought a filter from Amazon to be on the safe side, which costs ~$17 and lasts 40 uses. For my daily usage, I will need to replace it every two months. (Note: this requires a universal animal filter not the standard filter.)2. The (optional) Crane branded cleaner (which has a milder scent than vinegar, rinses away easily, and works well) is not currently available on Amazon.ca (except, perhaps, as a 50x-priced import). So heads up, if you want to use the Crane branded cleaner, it may not be as easy to come by.However, these 2 issues do not detract from the humidifier's functionality (and imo they fall into a "buyer beware" category) so I did not reduce my rating for the unit as a result.
