Deni 5600 1-Quart Electric Yogurt Maker

This is the first yogurt maker I have ever used. The thing that most appealed to me about this model is that the yogurt is made in single serving containers so you can flavor each one differently if you choose. Also, the price is very reasonable and the super-saver shipping was an added bonus. I've made a few batches and each one has come out perfectly. The glass jars are durable and have wide mouths so they're easy to clean. The machine is easy to use and comes with very clear instructions. You just plug it in, set the timer, and let it sit. It would be nice to have an automatic shut-off, but you need to refrigerate the yogurt immediately afterwards anyway so this really isn't a big deal. I use packets of yogurt starter and the homemade yogurt comes out mild and creamy every time. Be aware that it does not come with starter, so you'll have to purchase it separately (I found it in the refrigerated section of a natural foods store) or you can use a little bit of store-bought plain yogurt. This is a high-quality product and I highly recommend it!

Alright for the price, the timer on mine really did not work. However it took me a while to figure that out. The yogurt was fine and it worked alright. However the glass jars were hard to clean in between. A good brush to clean out and steam cycle on washer machine still have to get in since the glass jars have areas that are dipping down and lips sort of where you have to get in the crannies. This could be designed better and extra glass jars would be nice for when you are waiting for next batch. Also if you use yogurt for other things like making frozen the small jars are not what you want. Overall I continue to use. It is a nice starter yogurt maker.

I bought this yogurt maker--Deni 5600, because of the good reviews on Amazon. I'm glad I did. It is so simple to use, I just heat a quart of milk in a pan until a slight boil, then take it off the burner to cool for about 15 minutes. I test it by dripping a few drops on my wrist (like a baby bottle). Then I mix in some powdered yogurt starter, stir and then pore into the little glass bottles that come with the maker. Then, I put the bottles in the Deni, set on the blue lid, plug it up, set the timer for 8 hours and forget about it. When it's done it sounds an alarm I can't ignore until I go and unplug it. All I do then is put the lids on the little bottles, take them out of the Deni and pop into the fridge. Done! The kids love the yogurt with a little honey and almond meal sprinkled on top. We will never buy store bought yogurt again. Not only does the homemade yogurt taste better but it's cheaper and more environmentally friendly--no packaging waste! I highly recommend this little yogurt maker.

I have loved making my own yogurt since buying this product several months ago. The quality of the yogurt is very good and the machine is very easy to use. The only issue I have with this product is the timer. First of all, the high-pitched, piercing noise that it makes when the time is up is akin to a fire alarm, and drives my cat up the wall. Second, if you want to cook the yogurt longer than 10 hours, you have to reset it. This is an issue when I am using it overnight, or when I need to leave the house but have to wait another two hours because my yogurt maker is shortly going to begin emitting an earth-shattering alert. I would still recommend purchasing this product because for this awesome price, I'm willing to put up with those issues, and maybe the more pricy options are no different. But it's worth noting.

I've made two batches so far. I love this yogurt maker. It is just the right size for a small household, and so easy. I used a grocery-store Greek yogurt as a starter and was very happy with the results, both as yogurt and as yogurt cheese. The jars and lids are easy to clean--I have seen people complain about the shape of the jars, but I am not sure what the problem is, because I have arthritis in my hands and still had no trouble getting a dish rag down in the jars to clean them. The machine lid and the rack are easy to clean also. While the base cannot be submerged, it is still very easy to wipe clean. My only wish is that the alarm buzzer was a little louder.

I actually bought this a few years ago and it is still going strong today! Never had a problem with it, the results have been consistant, and the jars are glass instead of plastic, which is a nice bonus. As others have stated, the caps are not leakproof, so if you're travelling with a cup of the yogurt, you need to put it in another container. Cleanup is easier than some have mentioned also...I just use a baby bottle brush and the cups get clean in no time. Great little machine that does exactly what it says it'll do. :-)This product was a personal purchase for myself at the normal retail price. Within 1 week of purchase, the timer broke and within 10 uses it will not even get to temperature -worthless unit.

This machine does what it says (makes yogurt), but I find the process pretty inconvenient and have returned it in favor of a simpler maker.My complaints:1. The jars are difficult to clean. I read this in other reviews and found out the hard way it's true. The angle of the mouth of the jar, and it's small size makes getting anything but fingers inside difficult.2. The jars leak. I love yogurt and I love eating it for a snack when away from home. No go w/ this one. I tipped a jar on its side in the fridge and it leaked. Turns out the jars are only for keeping the yogurt "fresh" not for transport.3. I opted for this one because it had automatic shut off but I've now found that's not necessary. If you make it in the evening and turn it off when you get up in the morning, that's plenty of time to "cook". Making yogurt is not rocket science. If it's in an hour or two longer than you expected, it will still turn out delicious.I think making yogurt is a great idea but it one just didn't cut it for me.

Makes great yogurt but it says it shuts off automatically ... It doesn't. One batch tasted like plastic because it was in overnight- I assumed it would shut off automatically. Next batch (and from now on) have to be there at the right time to shut it off. Tasted great.
