So Easy to Clean and Works Great!
This humidifier is exactly what I was looking for. The winter season really dries out air in my house, so running this made the air so much easier to breathe. I have bought a couple other cool mist humidifiers but I couldn't clean them because they didn't open up and have a filter inside. They always made me feel sick after a while of use, so I wanted to find one with a replaceable filter that I could open up and clean. This fit exactly what I needed. Every aspect of this is easy to take apart and clean. You can get replaceable filters online for pretty cheap as well. The instructions are very simple about setup and cleaning. I have not experienced any leakage at all over the course of a year of use. The mist that comes out is nice and cool, and the tank is very easy to refill. I do wish there was an auto shut off feature, but I usually just let it run all night while I sleep until the water is empty. It's also extremely quiet, like a light fan. I highly recommend this humidifier to anyone who wants to make sure their humidifier is clean!

Purchased 5 years ago - HOT TIP for the rubber gasket deteriorating issue!
I bought this on Amazon in February 2019 and it is now February 2024 and I felt the need to write a review (I almost never write reviews, but I have a useful tip that I wanted to share). Like a lot of people, I needed a humidifier to help with sinus issues b/c the winters are so dry. I've had other humidifiers with the cool mist, and the white dust was a major issue (the amount of water I go through with my humidifiers made purchasing distilled water unrealistic). This humidifier completely solved the white dust problem while using my tap water. The fan sound went on low is quiet enough that when I have it in my living room, it doesn't bother me, and if you are a white-noise-while-you-sleep kind of person you would probably be perfectly happy with it on a higher setting as well. The bubbling of the water emptying the tank into the tray can be distracting when I have people over and they hear it. I rarely notice it, but if you plan to have it in a bedroom and a light sleeper, that's something to keep in mind (I also have Honeywell's other evaporative humidifer that does not have a separate tank and so does not have that issue and that is in my bedroom - I find that one to be less convenient to fill, though). The plain white filters work fine - how long each will last depends on how hard your water is. I will note, I forgot to purchase refills once and was able to use one of the washable/reusable ones for another humidifier I have but that humidifier and those wicks don't seem to still be available on Amazon but it seems any humidifier that uses those cylindrical filters uses the same size filter. This year (the 5 year mark) when I first got it out at the beginning of the season the gasket was leaking a little bit when I refilled the tank since it's rubber and as it ages it has become stiff and brittle. Multiple reviewers have mentioned this and have expressed frustration that you can't seem to replace that one tiny rubber bit. I was getting ready to consider purchasing another one but as the only thing that seem to be wrong, was that one gasket I felt uncomfortable with throwing out the one I purchased five years ago. I decided to give something random a try to see if it would work first... I am pleased to announce that it absolutely worked better than I imagined! I do hope that Honeywell does offer the option to purchase a replacement water bottle cap (or at least the gasket) in the future, but in the meantime, if you don't want to get rid of the entire unit because it's working fine and you need to replace that one gasket there are other humidifiers out there with caps that sell replacement caps. The other caps are significantly smaller and the gasket is also a bit smaller than the cap and gasket on this Honeywell humidifier, however, the gasket doesn't actually need to be as large as the original one it seems! I purchased a replacement cap that appeared to have the same spring/rubber gasket mechanism to see if I could cannibalize the gasket from the other cap (I purchased this one that is for a slew of models including Emerson, MoistAir, Kenmore, etc: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082K4X4SQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I was able to pop the rubber bit off of the small cap and use that in place of the rotting one on my Honeywell and I no longer have to be extra cautious when flipping the tank over to place back onto the unit!! Hopefully, Honeywell offers replacement caps in the future so people don't need to purchase a whole new unit for one tiny, very replaceable part!

Very good humidifier, with overpriced filters.
Overall, I really liked this humidifier. I've had mine for about 2 years now, and It still works perfectly. The design is pretty good. It looks pretty good in the home, and isn't so big that it won't fit anywhere. The bottom tray and tank are dishwasher safe, and the UV light is replaceable. The cover on the fan is almost impossible to get off, (to clean the dust off of the blades) but I found that if you wedge a flathead screwdriver under it you can pop it out with minimal damage. The water tank has a big opening, so it is easy to clean. Overall a good design. Cleaning this humidifier isn't too bad. As with all cool mist humidifies, you have to replace the filters about every month. Don't but the OEM filters, they are way overpriced. I found a good off brand and they are just about the same in every way. The tray does get some calcium buildup, and the water tank can get slimy sometimes. Both are very each to clean with just a wipe or a soak in vinegar. I've noticed that the part where the UV light shines on the plastic is deteriorating, but I've had it for 2 years so far, and it looks like it'll hold up. One thing to note is DO NOT put the lid of the water tank into the dishwasher. For some reason it damages the seal, and I had to buy a new lid. The noise level is really good. On low, it barely makes a sound. A good white noise to sleep too. Medium is ok too, but it does get pretty loud on high. Decibel reading from 1 foot away, low, med, high: 33db, 49db, 62db. Overall, I like this humidifier, and I think it will last for well over 5 years.

Great humidifier as long as you keep it clean!
This is a great humidifier that doesn't send mold spores into the air. The only negative comments I can make about it are things that are common for all humidifiers. Specifically, there are some important tips to follow to get the best results with the unit and also prevent mold from growing in the filter or tank. From my experience, the benefits you get from using this humidifier will be directly related to the care you put into keeping it clean and well-maintained. Please refer to my tips below if you decide that this unit is right for you. Pros: 1. Clean air: The UV light helps to kill bacteria and mold. This is so important, because most other humidifiers will grow mold spores and send them throughout a room. 2. No visible mist released: Some other humidifiers release a visible mist that can cause surrounding objects to become damp, which increases the likelihood of mold/mildew growth. 3. It holds a lot of water. I often have it run throughout the night on a single tank. 4. Easy to clean and refill tank 5. Relatively quiet: I enjoy having the fan set to low during the night. It adds relaxing "white-noise" to the room. 6. Helps my skin feel less dry by adding moisture to the air (Of course, this is true of any humidifier) Cons: 1. Limited controls: on some of the more expensive humidifiers, there is a built in hygrometer. This would be helpful because on nicer models, there is an auto-off setting once the room reaches a desired humidity. 2. The wick doesn't always do a very good job absorbing water during operation. (Tip #4 below) You can alleviate this problem by soaking the wick in water prior to turning the device on. 3. Upkeep: This unit has two parts that will need to be replaced every so often depending upon individual use, the UV light bulb and the wick/filter. I haven't had to replace my UV light in the six months I have had the humidifier, but I have had to replace the wick/filter once. Tips: 1. Some have complained about the development of mold in the white wick that comes with this humidifier. To prevent mold from ever having a chance to grow, I keep the unit on until all the water is absorbed, and then allow the fan to continue running until the wick is dry (about an hour). Alternatively, you can remove the wick between uses and air dry it. The most important thing is that the wick doesn't have a chance to sit with water in it for more than a day. 2. Use filtered water. This help the wick stay absorbent for longer. If you don't use filtered water, you will find that the wick gets less absorbent as minerals from the water build-up over time. 3. Soak the wick before turning the fan on. Sometimes the wick doesn't absorb water very well without soaking it first. 4. Purchase a hygrometer. This will tell you how much moisture is in the air, and allow you to monitor how long to keep the humidifier on. If the humidity is too high, you increase the risk of growing mold. You can find a decent hygrometer for around $10. 5. (Optional) Every few weeks, I like to rinse the filter/wick in a mixture of vinegar and water. The vinegar helps to clean and sanitize the filter. After thoroughly rinsing the filter, you will not be able to smell the vinegar. 6. (Optional) I add a couple drops of Eucalyptus oil to the water. Eucalyptus oil has natural antibacterial properties, and it's also a relaxing scent. I do not recommend using eucalyptus oil in infant rooms as a precaution, since it can be mildly toxic to children.

Great No Frills Humidifier
Things I love: - Very simple design - Maintenance and cleaning is very easy - The water tank is very large - Very quiet on the low and medium settings, and still not that loud on the high setting Things I don't love/aren't quite meeting my expectations: - It did not come with an instruction manual, and I had to look it up on the Honeywell website. Before I looked it up I didn't realize you had to wet the filter before use. So for about one full day the humidity was not changing much, and I was confused why the water tank wasn't depleting. - After soaking the filter as instructed, I definitely noticed the room felt a lot better in terms of humidity. However, per the hygrometer I have in the room (which is not that large, would describe as a small bedroom), the humidity level does not seem to be going past 20%. The humidifier is at least 2' off the floor, and I have tried moving the humidifier around the room to see if that helps, but it doesn't seem to be able to get past the 20% mark, even when I have it on the high setting. This is confusing to me because other reviews indicated that users would put the humidifier on high, and then come back a few hours later to find humidity had increased at least 10%. My guess is that the room is so dry, that the furniture is soaking up all of the moisture that the humidifier is putting out. I'm hoping that in a week or so of running the humidifier on high, i'll see some meaningful change in humidity, but if not I will report back.

Maybe the best humidifer
Way better than an ultrasonic humidifier, but also dead simple operation and cleanup, a large water reservoir, and three fan speeds that have a noticeable effect in the rate of humidification. We live in an area with very low humidity in the summer, and we thought we needed two of these in one room, but honestly one is usually enough, and that's just on speeds 1 and 2, we don't even typically need it on the highest speed. And when I saw low, I mean we once opened a window for 10 minutes and the relative humidity in the room dropped to 20%. We closed the window and, even though it took a while, a single unit brought us back to 50% and kept us between 50% and 60% for almost 12 hours straight. Our ultrasonic humidifiers we had in the past could NEVER do something like that. They might work faster at humidifying a room, but even those with large water reservoirs run out much faster than these do and these maintain an optimal humidity more easily, and cost barely any more than an ultrasonic humidifier does. Do yourself a favor, get one of these if you have an ultrasonic humidifier. You'll be so much happier.

Money sucker, be ware
I bought the humidifier 10 months ago, exchanged one item, and bought two additional filters. Now I decided to not using it anymore because it is a money sucker. Frankly I am quite frustrated. The humidifier has a good concept, thats why I bought it in the first place. When you see below cons, please keep in mind neither of it lasts and I will details based on my experience. - antimicrobial - quiet when running - fan aided humidifying efficient adding moist to air I also listed couple cons I see: - the biggest con is that the item only works for a very short period of time before you need to spend more money on the filter - difficult to clean the fan section which quickly accumulates dust As background I use it for a 13X13 room, and I keep the item running 24 hours a day. I clean the base pan every 2-3 weeks. When I bought it November 2014, the first item has a very loud fan so I asked for replacement of the second item. The second item works great at the beginning, add moist to air, quiet. After two weeks, I noticed the slow down of the water tank depletion and disassemble the item. There are quite some dirty stuff in the base pan. It is normal and I clean it, and I begin to clean it every 2-3 weeks. It worked for another two weeks then wont spread water to air. I checked and found the filter become dirty at the bottom (that come in contact with the water in base pan). I used water to gently clean the filter and flipped the up side down when put it back, hoping the top part can transmit more water. I worked....for less than a week. The water tank has almost same amount of water after the fan running 24h a day for several days! Ok I need a new filter and I bought one as I still need it to help me through the dry winter. The second filter worked for another month and then quit sending moist. So in Feb.2015 I only have a fan pretending blowing moist to air. One more thing I noticed is the dust accumulated at the fan cannot be cleaned. You have to unscrew the assembly to take it out, but you do not want to do it as it could make the fan very loud. Actually the fan became loud with the dusk already and you basically can do nothing about it. I have to use the lowest speed to be able to sleep well. So after about 2.5 months, I stopped using it but thought I can try it again later. We were traveling for several months and after came back, I cleaned it, bought a second filter and re-start using the humidifier. This second filter is different from the original filter and the first additional filter. The second one was double the thickness of the other two. It worked longer life, too. The item becomes efficient again sending water to air and I almost picked up my confidence in it, before it quit working again in a month. It seems the thicker filter does not last longer. I suspect the reason is that when the filter bottom become dirty, the dirt blocks the water sucking up path. I decided not using it any longer and I bought another cheaper humidifier that does not need filter replacement. If more money cannot give me a better life why should I do it. I will not give the other humidifier name which could sound like ad. My number comparison at last: Total cost for this item is $60+$8+$9=$77, for use of about 4 months. If you like me that runs it 24h a day, consider the bi-monthly charge of about $10 for a new filter. The other humidifier was the same model we were using for years, working not very good but acceptable. It is about $30 and no extra money is needed.

Works well and I like it, but I don't love it.
I've owned this humidifier for three and a half years. I purchased it after finding that my ultrasonic humidifier had invisible slime growing inside the tank, so I specifically looked for something I could thoroughly clean and for the most part I haven't been disappointed. Here are my observations and opinions. Maintainance/Cleaning: • Can be cleaned thoroughly. The bottom tray and tank can be placed in the dishwasher or can easily be scrubbed by hand because the hole in the tank is large enough to fit an arm through. I clean it in the dishwasher without detergent and turn off high heat/sanitize and heated dry to avoid melting the plastic. The large opening in the tank also makes it pretty easy to dry the inside of the tank to deter mold growth. However, there's one spot inside the tank that's not easy to scrub. I has a weird shape where the handle is located. I haven't had mold grow in that spot, but I consider this a design flaw. I recommend cleaning once a week or the tray will get slimy. I've had this happen when I missed a week. • I do recommend cleaning the wick along with the tray, tank, and lid weekly, and allowing the wick to dry each day because it definitely can grow mold. My first one did. Once a week, I soak the wick in vinegar, then rinse in water. Every day I remove and wipe out the tank and allow the unit to run until the wick is dry. I haven't had any issue with mold since I started doing this that first year. • You have to buy wicks. Cleaning them does extend the life of them, but they don't last forever. I'd say mine last a few months before they get hard and begin falling apart. • The tank lid is NOT easy to clean, and I don't put it in the dishwasher or soak in vinegar because I'm afraid of damaging the rubber seal. I clean with soapy water, a toothbrush, and Q-tips every week. It gets slimy/moldy if I don't. (I also find it difficult to get the lid screwed on tight enough to prevent leaking and have to try several times most times I fill it.) • As one commenter stated, the fan blades aren't easy to get to to wipe off dust. I've found this issue with every fan I own. I use compressed air cans remove the dust from the blades. This works very well on this unit unlike the tower fan I own. (That commenter also stated that there was mold on their blades, but that's never happened to mine. I only run it at night though, so perhaps if run 24/7?) Humidity- • It definitely humidifies my large master bedroom and I notice a huge difference in my throat and sinuses when I use it. However, it's difficult to control the level of humidity. Even on low it seems to cause condensation on the windows. My old unit had a setting for humidity level, but this just has high, medium, and low settings. Noise- • This is a difficult one because people vary in their noise tolerance. The fan does make noise even on low. I personally like that because it's a mellow, low-frequency white noise that helps drown out sounds and helps me sleep. Durability- • As I stated, I've had it for over three years and it still works great. I use it all night during autumn, winter, and spring. • The UV light lasted about three years. I recall it working last winter, but I don't think it is now. However, I don't think it really made any difference anyway and it actually damaged the plastic tray around it in the same way constant sun damages hard plastic. This hasn't affected the way the unit works, but I can scrape plastic off with my nail there whick causes me some concern. Asthetics- • My opinion is that this thing is big and ugly. It takes up quite a bit of space. Would I recommend it? Yes if you want something that lasts, that you can clean, that works well and if you're willing to deal with the cleaning and wick replacement. Not if you're looking for something pretty, compact, and/or silent (I think it's pretty quiet, but not silent).
