I purchased the engine, number 0 and caboose for a newborn baby boy for his '0' BIRTH day. I am going to put them on top of a diaper cake.Although the pieces were a bit smaller than I expected, each one was beautiful and exquisitely detailed. The tiny wheels even move!!This is a wonderful keepsake that can be added to for birthdays to come.Worth every penny! Would highly recommend!

I have the engine, caboose, and numbers 1, 2 and 3 so far. Although I do shop directly with Danforth (plus shipping), my birthday train came through amazon (same price, free shipping.) At first, I thought the amazon versions might be knockoffs, but a call to Danforth confirmed that the amazon sales are legit. I was briefly tempted to buy the whole set but decided that these only hold their appeal for so many years before children lose interest. I will probably quit at #5, unless the grandchildren demonstrate significant interest in the meanwhile (IOW, looking forward to the next year’s animal/# car.) They are lovely and do hold birthday cake candles well. We line them up on the table near the cake, and let the kids roll them around. They do stay together unless they use too much force. I suppose you could mount them in the cake’s frosting, but we have not; too much trouble to clean the tiny wheels thoroughly.I love the look of traditional pewter, and Danforth has a good selection, some of it available on amazon. The train components seem a little expensive, but they are quite detailed, and at least made in USA (Vermont.) For items made in USA I’m always willing to pay a little more. The birthday train is a sweet way to mark birthdays and will hopefully become a family heirloom after I’m gone.Highly recommended.
