Excellent emergency light

Easy to fit

I ordered this thinking that it was like a battery backup relay type of device, so I was hoping to wire it to my existing hall lights having them all come on from this unit in an emergency, however it is actually a self contained LED light with the backup power for when needed during a power outage or fire. Although this isn't what I had thought it was it is still going to be very useful to us for use on our stairway. In the past many years, we have had two house fires the second of which nearly killed us including my young children as they were back then so anything that helps in a fire is always utmost on my mind. I already have several smoke and flame detectors along with a carbon monoxide alarm and now with this I have emergency lighting so hopefully if the worse was to happen for a third time we will be able to escape more easily. On opening, this unit is nicely put together and comes with a choice of light surrounds that should match the existing inset GU10 lighting in the ceiling. We have brushed steel GU10 holders in ours so I fitted the closest one in this set which although it isn't an exact match it is close enough. The battery backup section of this device is already connected to the LED light so it just requires the mains wiring to be added at the input end. This light fitting after a small amount of filing fits our existing GU10 holes so I simply replaced one of my five stairway lights with this unit. I did want to add some new wiring so that this had a direct supply as we don't use the stair lights very often and I was worried that the battery wouldn't keep charged for when or if it would be required. I think for lighting that is used most days that the wiring from the existing light that this will replace would be enough to keep it charged up ready for use. This is a very useful kit and could save lives, it is well built and easy to fit in most cases. In my mind this is very good value (at the time of this review £21.99), as this could save yours and your families lives one day. Recommended.

240v in emergency lighting. Wanted some back up lighting on the stairs to our house in the vent of a power cut. This does the job perfectly. Installation was really easy, 42mm hole, same as a normal GU10 hole. Then two wires into the mains power. This has to be onto an always on connection unlike what the other reviewers say. Once the power goes out, the light will come on automatically and stay on until either the the power is restored or the battery runs out. Don't do as the other reviewers have advised you you put it into the light circuit, once you flick the switch this will turn on. When you turn the switch on on this will come on. Pointless. I'll just ignore the reviwer who has fitted it under their stairs as it doesn't work like that. Its not got a PIR, it needs to be hard wired in and will only work in the event of power loss This device means that the stairs have a light on when the power goes out so no one gets hurt Very happy

Poorest quality ever

Living as we do in the wilds of Cornwall our mains power supply is more vulnerable than most and in storm season (for example the triple header we have just experienced at the time of writing this in Feb 2022) our power can go off for many hours. Normally we have USB rechargeable LED torches ready to go when threatening events loom, but sometimes power cuts can happen unexpectedly due to other factors. At such times stumbling around in total darkness is scary and unsafe. So, a product such as this is invaluable. It has an integral battery which - when power is available - gets constantly charged or topped up as needed. The light that it comes with normally shows a dim green pilot light to show the unit is on. However, when power is removed, the LED automatically comes on bright white - and stays on for up to 3 hours - plenty of time to find those torches or candles in an otherwise pitch black house/workshop/shed. I plan to put a couple of these around our house. We won't need them often, but when we do, they are a great boon to safety.

Great light for emergencies and it’s well packaged. Perfect for the workplace. It’s pretty cheap as well so it’s good value for money.
