Kenny Ball - Greatest Hits - CD

How did they do it?
I grew up in the 60's and like all my contemporaries bought the records released by the early 60's US artists (like Duane Eddy, Elvis, Bobby Vee etc.) and also migrated in part to the 60's group invasion that took over the charts in the mid to late 60's around the world. When I saw this absolute bargain on Amazon, I remembered the fact that Kenny Ball released so many good records that were great trad' jazz that had melodies, rhythm and most of all were good fun. On top of all that he topped the US charts and other around the world with. "Midnight in Moscow" a real nostalgic return to the 60's for me, and covered and provided new interpretations of songs like "Sukiyaki" and the "Green Leaves of Summer".However, looking back, IO think his real achievement was to have made so many hit records of the Trad Jazz genre against all the odds when no one else could do it, apart form the fleeting one-offs of Acker bilk and Terry Lightfoot. Well done, Kenny, a good collection and great value!

THE VERY BEST OF KENNY BALL AND HIS JAZZMEN
I RECENTLY PURCHASED THE ABOVE, BECAUSE I LOVE LISTENING TO KENNY BALL, HIS STYLE OF MUSIC WHICH I HAVE BEEN ATTRACTED TO, FROM AN EARLY AGE, WHEN MY LATE MOTHER USED TO LISTEN TO THE RADIO IN THE MORNINGS WHEN SIMPLY RELAXING, OR WHILE DOING THE HOUSEWORK! AN IDEAL PURCHASE!!

Kenny Ball Greatest hits
I bought this for an unusual reason. I have been researching the family tree and found my wife was a distant relation of Kenny Ball. There had been talk in the family of a possible relationship for years and I finally tracked it down. I am not particularly musical but the thought of listening to an artist who was a distant relation made this an obvious buy. I enjoyed it very much indeed - a good selection which I can listen to right through or have as background music in the car.

Top-notch singles+ collection
All the hit singles in order (with a few more added.) I wanted a nice Kenny Ball compilation and can't see anything bettering this (though I got another as well called The Collection - see my reviews for that - cheap to give me even more tracks) and the sound quality here is superb. I should mention that this is mostly stereo from the start as some may be wondering about that... stereo or mono was fine with me though.

A true legend of British Jazz
Still got a few of his singles on vinyl from the early 60's. This is a great collection of his hits and the original recordings. It's a great tribute to a true legend of British Jazz. Some of my favourites on here, Sukiyaki, March Of The Siamese Children and Midnight In Moscow.
