The Road to Perfect Health - How Probiotics Balance Your Gut and Heal Your Body

endobiome
I might rate 5 stars because of the importance of the information in this book. I could also go for 1 star because it is a pamphlet promoting a brand of probiotic products, and leaves out vital information. Anyway, buy it! I understand a larger volume with more information is available from PBS. Reviewers might confuse the two. This is vitally important, medically, and hardly recognized by most doctors. The bowel contents, feces, far from being simply a waste product are multifunctional nuutritonally and immunologically. As a beginning, they produce vital nutrients, prevent infections, and promote immune system health. Functioning effectively as an organ of the body, a proper term for it is the endobiome (inside life). Some writers call it microbiome, which is less specific. Modern life and medical care leave the endobiome either poorly developed or severly damaged. The thousand or so species and many trillions of individuals of bacteria interact like a metropolis, and are part of protection from or cause of numerous diseases, not only diarrhea and constipation. Too many of one species, for example, is a cause of obesity. Asthma and dermatitis are much affected by the endobiome. Antibiotics can result in permanent damage to the endobiome. I might recommend my book, HONEST NUTRITION for other reasons, but when I wrote it several years ago, I had only a little on this topic. Natasha Campbell-McBride's book GUT AND PSYCHOLOGY SYNDROME has more on this, as well as relating the digestive organs to psychological problems. Natasha's autistic child was essentially cured by nutritional principles which are explained in that book. When I revise HONEST NUTRITION, and in newer books I am writing, the endobiome will be a prominent topic, as it should be. Watson leaves out the real cure for dysbiosis (disease of the endobiome): fecal transfer. Many severe infections like C. diff can be cured in a day with this therapy, which should be a first rather than last choice. Anyone with Crohn's disease or other bowel problems, or immune system problems should follow up on that.Ira Edwards, Medford, Oregon

Great book for someone who knows nothing about Probiotics or health of the body
I purchased this book after seeing the author on PBS during a pledge break. I watched her presentation about health. She is a health professional and has solved many peoples health problems resolving digestive problems. She explains how the small intestine is where your immune system is maintained. I decided to try taking probiotics after reading her book. My husband has always had digestive issues to the point of having to take days off from work. I wanted to resolve his issue. We are both very healthy and noticed a few months after taking the probiotics (ordered from her company at the time) that we do not have colds or flu. It has been many years of taking probiotics , along with eating food that naturally contains them that we continue to be very healthy.I would recommend this book to anyone interested in improving their health.

The person I gave it to loves it
The book actually did get here only I didn't know it because I had ordered it for a roommate. She saw it by the back door and did not tell me that it was here. I gave it a negative review because I didn't know That it had arrived. I have not read it myself but my housemate had seen it somewhere else and she loves this book. I meant it to be a gift for her birthday anyway so I am happy That the book actually did arrive. I do think she should have told me so I would not have given the seller a negative review. She is very much into vitamins, food combinations and organic foods. She Microwaves everything which I think kills some of the nutrients. As for myself, I drink diet sodas so I guess I believe in "better living through chemistry." I actually cook my food. I steam my vegetables and I slow cook my chicken until the meat is falling off the bones and then I remove the fat. I am giving the book 5 stars because Pamela would do that if she were reviewing it.

wrong item sent
I was sent the CD set instead of this book. I ended up with the better deal I think. The downside, is that I can't just flip to the section I need. The upside, is that I can listen while waiting to fall asleep or combing hair or some other mundane task that doesn't require my brain.I like this set and it's full of information. If the book is anything like the cd, it's good. I refrained from writing a review since the product sent was not exactly what i ordered, but I'm tired of seeing it pop up requesting review so...

To diluted. Buy the Big Hardback Copy with the same name.
This is the poor mans VERY small version of a much bigger and better book with the same title. I've seen and looked through the other version but went with this small version to save about 50 dollars. If you can't afford the PBS only version of this book, then fine, buy this. It will get you started. But the other book is a thousand times better. It appears very hard to find this 'Big Book' on the internet. I can't find it anymore. I know you can purchase it from certain detox centers that have it displayed, but how do you buy it online? I think they are just out of print they sold out so fast.

Invaluable Reference Book on Various Maladies
This book not only has a lot of recommendations for getting healthy but it is beautifully illustrated. And Brenda's advice is paired with commentary from an M.D. on the particular malady that they are describing and advising on. The big "WOW" moment for me came when I was experiencing MRSA about six years ago. I had no idea what it was, and thought that it was actually some spider bites because that's what it appeared to be. Impulsively, I opened The Road to Perfect Health, and there was the explanation: MRSA, which looks like spider bites. I was shocked but also relieved to know what I had.I purchased it through a PBS fundraising drive (and paid a substantial contribution for it) but you can get a copy for a song on Amazon (especially a used book).
