Ralph and Hunter - a twisted pair.
Ralph - Please give me an original. I'd love to be the only one who owns a piece. Thanx for the insight, and thanx for the art.The book... is not a must read. My 12th grade English teacher gave us"The 100 Must Read Books For A Well Educated Adult" - this is not on the list.

Better than an unauthorized biography.
Mr. Steadman tells it like it is, even when there is obvious animosity between himself and HST. Some great pictures I hadn't seen before, although I wish they had been reproduced full page size. The stories are good and give some interesting insight into (attempting) to work with HST. Overall a good read, if you're a fan of either of the men you will enjoy this book and be glad it is in your personal library. To no fault of Mr. Steadman, reading this book did bum me out a bit that we have no more new HST work to read ever again. I still remember turning on the news that fateful February morning...

The Jokes OVer by Ralph Steadman
If your a fan of Hunter I highly recommend this book. I'ts written by his best friend, not some second hand source of filtered information,so it's told how it is, how it was, and what really wend down on their adventures on the job.The book is also full of Ralph's Gonzo Art - some of the very pictures Hunter requested him to draw.I feel like I'm on Reading Rainbow right now, but this is a book I'm happy to have added to my collection. My prop's to Amazon for the best deal I could find on the internet, Thanks. So if you want to hear about Hunter from the man that was with him on his mission's and how that man was influenced and likewise, than this book is for you, I'ts well writted also. Peace.

Excellent!
What a candid look back on an extrordinary and, at times, very trying friendship. We could all use friends such as Ralph, people who could put up with our worst sides and then still be able to look back on us with some measure of affection. If you are an HST fan, you must read this book. This is one book that fills in the blanks, the behind the scenes info that you always wonder about after reading HST. We now know as much of the picture as we're ever going to.I do hope that I am able to meet Ralph Steadman before it's his time. I missed that chance with HST, but with this book you will feel as though you were there the entire time.Bravo!

Thanks Ralph ...
If anyone on this planet knew Hunter Thompson, then that someone was Ralph Steadman. Ralph gives use some of the details of how much fun Hunter could be. The Jokes Over is a testament to just how important Hunter was to a large group of us out here on the frontline ... he and Ralph made it possable to laugh at a really BAD joke that this world is in ... and in the end even Hunter had had enough ... it wasn't funny any more. One can only thank the gods for letting us have Hunter ... and Ralph ... to remind us that the Jokes not over ... until the last bullets fired. These two men ARE gonzo journalism ... rock on !!

It wasn't a question of if, but when.
I'm going to miss the good doctor. Hunter S. Thompson, with his faithful English mad man gave us the ultimate in gonzo journalism. This is Ralph's side of the love/hate partnership they shared. For the most part, he does a good job. There are some rants and he pulls off some of his own scabs from life with Hunter. The artwork is first rate and of course, that is what Ralph does best. Still, all in all, it was a good read and I recommend it for anyone who has ever been the sidekick of a huge ego or savagely bludgeoned by the wierd that has gone pro.

Authoritative Yet Very Choppy.
I really find Ralph Steadman to be a very interesting person; an opinion which was shared, no doubt, by Hunter S. Thompson who provided him with a trove of faxes and letters over the course of their multi-decade friendship and professional association. The great allure of this work is that the author fills it with primary source materials which document the depression, anger, paranoia, and euphoria of the Gonzo Master, yet this is also a problem for the book. At times it is very choppy and feels more like a cut-and-paste job than a true narrative. I had to give it three stars though because it obviously illuminates Thompson's personality and it provides us with details that would be very difficult to find elsewhere. It's an important document despite its lack of flow.
