Best needle file handle! By far.
This is by far the best needle file handle I have ever ever seen. It is very high quality.. I am a huge fan of brass and wood, so that was decisive for me also. The fact that this has a collet and screw-down keyless finger chuck, rather than a ferrule and under sized hole for a forced friction fit, makes this extremely special and high quality. If I am able to, I plan to get a whole set of these for all my files so I don't have to loosen and switch them out as often. I could make something like these myself, but these are high quality and inexpensive enough for me to not want or need to do that. I'm very happy with this product. I do wish I could buy a set of 5 or 10 of them for a better rate. But this thing is fantastic, so I am okay buying them individually. Thanks!

Professional quality, great feel and function
When you're working slowly with needle files, perhaps you can work without a handle. However, when you have a lot of filing to do you'll want to spend less time doing it. That's where this handle comes in. Take a cheap sub-$10 needle file kit from Amazon and increase your accuracy, speed, and motion with this handle. Designed for Swiss pattern needle files with round standard-diameter handles. Precision work became more fun and less tedious.

Absolutely perfect
I wasn't aware that PFERD made handles for needle files until I saw them on Amazon. I have used their blue plastic file handles and abrasive wheels for many years. I use a lot of different needle files in my work and hobbies. I'm a tool maker, clockmaker and do some gunsmithing too. I have used some other needle file handles and pin vises but these are by far the best I have ever used. The size and balance are excellent. I just put in my third order for more.

Dang this thing is tiny!
Despite the numerous glowing reviews, I find absolutely nothing special about this PFERD needle file handle. It’s not that it’s a horrible product. I simply expected something much better, considering the PFERD brand, and I’m especially upset that I paid so much for this thing. When I purchased it in July 2020, my online search revealed that a few brick-and-mortar specialty stores were selling it for just shy of $5.00 in-store which actually seems to be more in-line with the overall quality and value of this handle. The only reason I purchased it from Amazon is because I was nowhere in close proximity to any of those physical store locations.Other reviewers rave about the high quality machining of this needle file handle and how it’s the best one they’ve ever used. C’mon, seriously? It’s just a basic wooden handle attached to a fairly standard brass collet with a screw-down keyless chuck. There’s nothing spectacular or impressive about the design or construction of any of those parts. Period. Sure, the collet and chuck work smoothly and tightens nicely…but why rave about that? I own a half dozen other pin vises that perform equally well. I just don’t get it. Frankly, I find some of those glowing reviews to be rather suspicious. As others have noted, the handle is VERY small. In fact, it’s RIDICULOUSLY small. I have great difficulty grasping it comfortably in the palm of my hand because of that small size so I instead have to grasp it with my fingers which makes it a bit awkward for me to use. The entire thing measures just 3-5/8 inches long with the wooden handle portion measuring even less at a diminutive 2-5/8 inches in length. The wooden handle tapers slightly toward the brass collet but measures about 1/2-inch in overall diameter throughout its entire length. When held in your hand, you don’t necessarily get the feeling that you’re working with a really good tool. For reference, I’ve attached a photo showing the size of this handle when placed in the palm of my hand. This petite handle has its place, I guess. Say, for example, you want to use a lightweight handle that’s nimble and unfatiguing during extended use.I specifically purchased this handle for the purpose of increasing my speed and accuracy while removing material on delicate or intricate parts using my Nicholson X.F. Swiss pattern needle files. The Amazon listing description states that it “Can be used with needle files or rasps”. It also states that this is a “Quick-mounting handle for needle files with 1/8" tang diameter”. Since I only use my Nicholson needle files on rare occasions, I made the mistake of assuming that all needle files have standard 1/8” tang diameter handles when that’s evidently not the case. Subsequently, I was disappointed to discover that the tangs of my round, straight Nicholson X.F. Swiss pattern needle files do not actually fit the brass collet. Whereas the tang diameters of my Nicholson needle file handles measure approximately 2mm in diameter, the brass collet of this handle closes to approximately 4mm at its absolute tightest making it a bit too large to securely grasp those needle file handles of mine. Shame on me for not paying closer attention to the info provided in this product's item description and, furthermore, not double-checking the actual diameter of my Nicholson X.F. Swiss pattern needle files prior to actually purchasing this handle. As they always say, it’s never best to just assume anything. Not all is lost, however, because I’ve found that I can still use this handle with my Nicholson needle files by simply wrapping some masking tape around the handles temporarily. Doing so is sufficient enough to increase the overall diameter of each needle file’s handle so that they will fit tightly into this brass collet.A final word of caution here. Be certain to store this file handle with the brass collet loosened... just like it comes packaged. That’s because any collet stored fully tightened will eventually lose its ability to grasp tightly. In summary, had I been able to actually see this file handle in person prior to purchasing it, I would have most definitely looked at buying something else. The fact that this thing has now increased so much in price to nearly $20.00 is crazy. No way is it worth that price. If money’s no object, then by all means knock yourself out and go for it. If, however, you wish to avoid being severely disappointed and subsequently afflicted with buyer’s remorse, then think twice before purchasing. You’ve been warned.

fits my needle files
Perfectly fits my Glardon Vallerbe 160mm files. The nut feels a little sticky on the threads, so I'm hoping this will wear in (or I'll put some wax on it!).

A very good handle.
This is a very good handle. This handle is for files with round stick handles that are between 7/64ths" and 9/64ths". This handle is not for tiny needle files. The files you use with this handle need to have a round, straight stick handle at least 2" long in order for the file to seat properly in the bottom of the wood handle. Otherwise the file will wiggle back and forth in the handle. The chuck of the handle has smooth threads and holds the files tight. The handle is a bit small, but it can be made larger, and given a greater grip by wrapping it with a strip of leather or bicycle inner tube rubber. The wood portion of the handle measures 2 and 5/8ths inches long, and has a diameter of 9/16ths" at it's largest point (the butt end).I'm probably going to buy another one of these. Maybe two more.

Cheap as it can get
Ordered this item and expect good quality. Instead I got a handle that felt like was made of Balsa wood and thin aluminum.Item is weightless, even when compared to a generic overseas plastic and brass file handle. Not worth the money AT ALL.

Unmatched Qaulity
The cost for one handle that will do for all the needle files is a bargain. Easy too use with the collet locking tight around thefile handle. You can adjust the length of stick out also which can come in handy. The wooden handle has a nice feel too it making filing easier then with the plastic coated ones going around.I most certainly will be adding the PFERD brand as a first choice when buying tools.

Smaller then I expected, but very well made.
I am not sure why but it is way smaller then expected. The unit is 9 cm long and 1 cm wide. It is too small for my hands. I might turn a new wood handle.Other the size I am pleased with the collet’s design and construction. It works smoothly, tightens nice and holds when using the needle file or rasp. High quality machined tool handle. Just be aware of the size.

Achtung
