Beautiful Detailed Illustrations
I discovered this book by checking it out at our local library and my kids loved it. I bought it so we would always have it in our collection at home. The drawings are beautiful, and the border drawings around the edges foreshadow what will happen later in an old folk art style with quilt patterns. There are only a few simple sentences on each page which is good for young readers to comprehend and just enjoy the pictures to follow the story. It's nice and gentle, good for bedtime. My 1 year old and 3 year old love being read it, and my kindergartener can read it on their own for reading practice!

One of our top favs
I absolutely love this book and totally recommend it to anyone looking for a wonderful children's book. The plot is simple and straightforward - the artwork around the edges of the pages give away the subplot, as it were - and there is an unexpected (if you ignore the edges artwork) but perfect ending. Jan Brett's artwork is wonderful. We got many hours of enjoyment reading this book to and with our three sons and this is the first book I order to give to friends with newborns (we like to be major contributors to their libraries!). I would recommend any of the early Jan Brett books - from Fritz and Tika to the hedgehogs and Sleeping Beauty - all thoughtfully done. But invest in a roll of packing tape. The spines will need some reinforcing after a hew hundred reads!

Beautiful illustrations - and Real nature
I grew up in the West and around wild animals (as well as domesticated ones). I hesitated to purchase this book because I was concerned that it would present wild animals as "cute" and safe, which is not a lesson that I want my children to learn. I want my children to respect and love nature and animals, but certainly don't want them to assume that any animal is going to be safe to be around, especially a wild animal. Add in the fact that feeding wild animals (other than birds) is not encouraged, and I was nervous. I don't want my children to have unrealistic and potentially dangerous ideas about how safe they are in nature/around wild animals. However, the book shows that the wild animals are just that - wild. And Annie recognizes that and doesn't try to tame them. In the end, Annie's cat returns with kittens, something I remember our cats doing while we were growing up - a wonderful surprise. This book is obviously a wonderful flight of fancy and I know my daughter really enjoys it. And I also know that if she sees an elk while we're camping, she's not going to try to pet it! Let alone, a mountain lion or bear or cow moose.

I adore Jan Brett books but this might be our favorite.
This is such a great adventure story for young listeners. It’s one of my 18 mo granddaughter’s favorite books. She’s learned to ask for Annie when she wants a story. Just a beautiful book, sturdy enough and a perfect size and length for a little one.

It's the little board book
Love this book, we have it in paper but needed it in the board book for reading with our Toddlers. My only surprise was that it is the small board book 6x6ish and I was excepting the larger book. Which I am sure this was in the details but I didn't notice. The size won't stop us from reading, though the print is some what small.

Sweet little book
My grandson is 3 and loves listening to the CD books and turning the pages to the sound. He's in the pre-reading stage where he loves to "read" books independently and these provide are a fun way to do that. Lovely art work.

Fantastic story and captivating illustrations
I clearly remember reading Jan Brett books as a kid and adoring them especially for the illustrations. My Daughters love audio stories/books, too, and especially ones that go along with their books that they can sit and follow along, as well. My only gripe is that the CD is held in the actual packaging so there's no where to keep it once you open the plastic packaging. I just cut it out, but it would have been nice if it would have had at least an envelope.
