My Garden / Mi Jardin (English and Spanish Edition)

Easy to learn
Neither my husband nor I are Spanish speakers. But our 2 1/2 year old was picking up Spanish from Dora the Explorer. We purchased quite a few of these Rebecca Emberley books and read them to her before bed time. She has totally started to learn the Spanish words and uses them in our day to day life. We are also learning! They are a great investment.

Pleasant, But Not a Standout Addition to Our Bookshelf
MY GARDEN/MI JARDIN is a good book. Like other books in this very nice series of bilingual board books, it features Emberley's distinctive artwork. It is a very nice book to read through with a little one, pointing at objects and naming them, so that he can learn the words. This is not Emberley's best, though. While our copy of MY NUMBER/MIS NUMEROS (another book in the series) is becoming battered through much use, this book does not get pulled out of the basket nearly so often. It just does not hold the same fascination for our baby. I think some of it is that when we read it, we are doing one thing - reading labels - rather than two things - reading labels and counting objects, as you do in MY NUMBER/MIS NUMEROS. Also, some of these pictures seem a little less inspired. They are certainly less busy (only one of most objects).Overall, though, I am still glad we bought MY GARDEN/MI JARDIN. It is a good board book, especially of you want to work on both Spanish and English.Vocabulary used: dirt, stones, worm, shovel, hose, watering can, tomatoes, squash, peas, vegetables, flowers, snail, ladybug, leaf, caterpillar, butterfly, birdbath, birds, frog and rocks.

Love the whole series
These are wonderful books. Great illustrations and wonderful for teaching English and Spanish vocabulary. We have many of the set and read them all the time.

Shows pictures and vocabulary for basic garden items. Nothing special. It will serve it's purpose, but the illustrations are a little underwhelming.
