Windstorm Safety Whistle Black

I got this for an EDC bag set up. If i ever need to use it I know it works. I made the mistake of gently blowing in it inside the house and I about blew my head off like that guy in scanners, so Im sure if I actually went full force me and everyone around will surely know where I am. The plastic it is made of feels pretty solid, but I am wary of testing that out too extensively. its not small either but not overly large. Like I said it is very loud, and thats the point.

This whistle is so bright and strong I can barely wait for an emergency, just so I can use it. I have sounded it on numerous occasions, and its voice carries across bays, alpine valleys, and even pierces the roar of thunderstorms. The impact resistant plastic will withstand a nuclear attack, and the handgrip design is more secure than other whistles. Because I use my kayak for hunting purposes in fairly remote areas, I have a wide variety of whistles and other safety gear ... and I can say without hesitation that this particular whistle is my first recourse of action when it comes to attracting attention in an emergency situation. Love this product, will never buy another brand!

...to attach my new black Windstorm Whistle to my stainless steel black necklace (also rustproof). Soooo I went to a tattoo shop and bought a black circular "captive bead ring". It's a circle-shaped piercing that people put in their eyebrows, ears and nose. I bought the smallest size at the shop and it cost $10. (The lady at the tattoo shop even clamped it on my whistle for me..ha ha!) I know it cost more than the whistle, but so what? It looks GREAT and it wont rust AND Im sooo happy that I can wear my whistle everyday. And I really do appeeciate the fact that thr Windstorm is more compact (but still loud) than the Storm.

Let me just say with this review, be careful where you use it. It can sound like some fire alarms. Now, for those that think it's not really loud, it is likely because the sound is traveling away from us when we use it, and it might not be as loud to us, but to people around us, it's really loud. I'd say this is worth it, and can potentially be used in any situations where you would need a whistle, just be careful.

I purchased these as gifts for all the girls in my family as extra little gifts at Christmas. I am not a proponent of carrying guns for safety but I do know the need to be on constant alert for dangers, even while exercising or walking to your car at night at the mall. I think this is a great alert system to call for help if you are in trouble. My son gave one to his pre-teen boy to take on a camping vacation with friends. It can even be heard from underwater!

This thing is for distress calling. If you blow it, someone will hear you, or they will at least wonder why it sounds like a train horn is coming from the lake. I latch this to my PFD when I go kayaking as my legally required "audible signaling device." I don't work for Windstorm or have any interest at all in it, but sincerely, this whistle is what you need. Its a good compact size, it has a mounting ring, and it works. I leave it on the boat because the kids will blow an eardrum playing with it in the house - it's just that loud even if you don't/ can't blow hard. I subtracted one star because it "feels" a bit lightweight so I question its durability. If I'm thrown from the yak, I imagine I am landing in the water or against an object with some force. Since the whistle is plastic, I'm concerned it could easily be crushed. It's great in "out of the package" condition, but I want it to survive a reasonable impact so that it will be there when I need it.

The whistle arrived before expected and in new packaging. My job requires I do traffic control so I need to be heard. I compared it to my standard whistle, which is okay. This whistle is definitely louder and you need to be aware that it has a different pitch to it. Although it’s shaped differently, it doesn’t me so as long as it gets people’s attention. I put the whistle to the test and it got the job done. At times the whistle bearing would get stuck and I’d be blowing a funny pitch, but shaking it got it loose. It was no biggy and I would still recommend it. If you have sensitive hearing, you will need hearing protection. Since I work with another person who assists me out in the street, I bought him one as well. Having both whistles worked even better!

I purchased this as a component of a tiny preparedness box I put together for a gift. It's lightweight and really has a loud, clear whistle with little breath needed. Just perfect to hang from the lanyard I also included in the box.
