third in series
Very nice mystery involving Edgar Allen Poe. Moves well with good development of the main character. Secondary characters are mostly faded into the background.

Enjoyed this
Penelope and Sadie are given a complete set of Phelp's Poe books. As their employee is unpacking the box he finds something which point to a puzzle in the books. But is it true? Why all the deaths related to these books? Penelope is arrested and has to set out to clear her name and solve the mystery with the help of Jack and her friends.I enjoyed this book. I like that Jack had a case similar to this one and shows Penelope how to solve the mystery. I felt the mystery was well done. It kept me enthralled. I wanted to know if the puzzle existed and what was the solution. I also wanted to know who the murderer was. I am loving this series and cannot wait to read the next one.

A Poe Code, a mysterious treasure, and the tell-tale clock
This is the third book in the series. Penelope's Aunt Sadie gets a call that an old lover/friend needs her to urgently come pick up some books that evening. It turns into a proverbial dark and stormy night. When they arrive at the house it is in bad shape, as is Peter. He gives them a valuable Poe book collection to sell on consignment and seems anxious for them to leave. When Pen leaves her purse, they return to find him dead from an apparent fall, even though he had stated that he never went upstairs. Through the grapevine, word gets out about the collection and when the first person to buy a book ends up dead, the race is on to find out what is so important about these books. They find that the rumor is true that the books contain a code to find a treasure. There are many suspects and some misdirection as the dual mysteries unfold. I loved the description of the Poe clock and wished that had figured more prominently in the story. This was a good story, but I felt the previous story was stronger.

Review of "The Ghost and the Dead Man's Library"
The female-sleuth of this series is Penelope Thornton-McClure and she lives in the small town of Quindicott, Rhode Island. She is a widowed mom of a 10-year old boy named Spencer. With her aunt Sadie, she runs a bookstore in downtown Quindicott called "Buy the Book".The interesting thing about "Buy the Book" is that it has a resident ghost in street-smart private investigator Jack Shepard. Jack was murdered in the bookstore many years ago and has never left - that is, his spirit has never left. And only Penelope can 'hear' him. At first she thinks she is going crazy but eventually she learns to accept his presence. In fact he has helped her solve a couple of murders."It was a dark and stormy night. No, really." This statement appears in Chapter 1 of this book, which is the third in the series. Penelope and Aunt Sadie are on their way to visit an old beau of Sadie's, Peter Chesley. Peter lives in the old Chesley family mansion that Penelope describes as being creepy! This mystery revolves around some rare and valuable old Edgar Allan Poe books he gives them to sell. With the help of her ghost Jack, Penelope solves the mystery.I'm pretty fascinated by the idea Ms. Kimberly came up with for this series and I'm really looking forward to reading more of her books.

Mixed -Up Mystery
Penelope, a bookshop owner, goes to an old friend of her aunt’s and is given a set of Edgar Allen Poe books. This is a famous set and could potentially have a secret map to find a treasure. People are interested in parts of the set and someone is killing people to get the books starting with an old friend of Penelope’s. Penelope is trying to find the killer, but the police think she is the killer. This is an interesting story with good characters and a great plot.

Definitely Fun! Well done Cozy/Raymond Chandler type of mystery
So many cozies are just a little too silly and a little too cozy. This is one of those that's different. It takes place in a lit tle town in Rhode Island, with what appears to be a typically cozy heroine. But she's not typical. For one, she walks around with the voice of a deceased gumshoe from the 1940s. And she's a pistol herself, not at first, but she gets there. Lots of fun and the characters all get in it together. A new series for me to read.

I can't say much yet
I gave it a four star rating because I have read the first two books and felt they were 5 star, but since I have not read this yet I could only give it a four. It came very promptly and was well packaged. No complaints there. You cannot go wrong buying a Cleo Coyle mystery. They are fun, fast reading and she never rushes the end or trys to make the ending work. Her books are always well planned and flow smoothly. I am sure this will be as good a read as the other two. Don't forget her Coffeehouse mysteries.

Brilliant!
I have been reading the series and find them really entertaining amd unusual with Jack the Ghost helping Penelope the book shop owner solve the murders. This is set in the modern day but you get an insight as to what the 1940's were like when Jack takes Penelope back to his era when she is asleep to help solve their crimes. There's humour, mystery and the characters are very diverse. I'd really like to see a film 🎥 made from the books as I can imagine it would go down very well with people who enjoy this kind of genre.
