Need better descriptions when buying used
This is for the fulfillment not the Author of the book. I select the more expensive book because my son needed this for school and so I selected the faster shipping. It came very quick but look at the cover! It’s like it’s been cut! This was not in the description and I wish I would have paid less now! This is a very torn almost cut cover. So disappointed

Nice history of Ferrari the man, as well as the company.
Well written. Does not read like fluff or press-releases. Discusses the man, his business and competition philosophy, his relationships with his family, his race drivers, his various partners, previous employers, competitors, even the Government...it seems very complete.I'm entirely satisfied.

The best book on the subject
A very well written, well researched piece of work. Yates writes with a knowledge and worldliness that far transcends the mere subject of highly coveted machines. It is not just a story of the man, but of the 20th century industrially and politically. It plumbs the depths of its subject in a manner that is comprehensive and balanced. The best book on the subject.

Great research, great storytelling, terrible spelling
Yates obviously did a huge amount of research for this book. There's lots of information in here that I hadn't seen In decades of reading. After buying it when it first came out, I still re-read it, almost 30 years later. The downside is that the book is littered with bad spelling. A few examples: "Chauvinism" is misspelled as "chauvanism". "Carburetion" is misspelled as "carburation". This from a so-called automotive writer?? Worst of all, coming in a book on Ferrari, Mauro Forghieri's last name is constantly misspelled as "Foghieri". I could go on, but you get the idea.Didn't Yates even re-read his own book before he sent it to the publisher? Didn't the publisher provide him with an editor? Obviously not. I always used to wonder why Yates wrote for the second-string team at C&D, rather than the first-string team at R&T. After reading the book, I didn't have to wonder anymore.

surprised
I bought this book years ago and subsequently read some rather critical reviews (DED) so just put it aside. Have read it now I was surprised at how good it was. Possibly some brave assumptions and conclusions, but over all very interesting portrait of a unique man.Wade
