To the point
Know Author. This is a good book. It is to the point. And many many people a lot more knowledge agree. But it's dry. And to the point.

Fantastic Book
What a fantastic read. I couldn't breeze through it like I can most other books. There was just too much meat. I could only handle a half dozen pages at a time just because I had to sit back and ponder what I had just read. This book excels where other books on Sanctification fails. Some authors focus so much on our doing that they neglect the Cross and the working of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Chappell puts the Cross back into focus and grace as the only means of Sanctification, but at the same time does not neglect our obedience in walking it out. This book destroys any concept, realized or unrealized, that you might hold concerning a Law of Merit or Attainment. Instead, Chappell goes into detail on the unmerited favor of our Lord toward us and the Law of Love that compels us.You ever just want to throw up your arms and give up when other believers tell you that in order to conquer sin in your life you just need to do the right things....read your Bible more, pray more, etc? This book totally dispells that notion. Instead, Chappell shows how we have been delivered of these things already through the Cross of Christ and that the doings we do now are merely the outward reaction to that. It is freeing to come to the realization that we don't have to live defeated lives...that Christ took care of it all and created in me a brand New Creation who is thoroughly empowered through His ressurrection life to live out this life....pursuing that Holiness that is had by Grace.

Holiness by Grace
This is a must read book for Christians who wish to understand the implications of the gospel andChrist's sacrifice on the cross for us and the meaning of growth in the Christian life. It is so easy to think that somehow we must do something to earn our salvation and to forget or fail to appreciate that all was accomplished on the cross and there is nothing left for us to perform. Faith is involved here but that too is a gift of God and is a tool or instrument by which we receive redemption made possible by Christ alone. This book sets this out emphatically and scripturally while explaining the processes involved in our growth in Christ after our completed salvation which do involve our obedience, another tool or instrument by which we experience the blessings of our redeemed state. For the Christian, this is always a difficult dicotomy to understand but to appreciating it fully is so liberating. This book explains it well with scriptural backing and by appropriate and illuminating illustrations. I was greatly helped by this book.

Important truth about grace
That we need to hear again and again. The riches of His mercy and grace melt our heart and mold it to love Christ and do things that serve and pleasing Him.

Chapell is known for preaching style and has good theology
The style and theology are shown in this book. How do you proclaim grace as what it is without implying license? This book explains well with Chapell's style of story-telling that hits right on along side good theology (that is, if you're one who would respect the Westminster Confession). Here's a quote: "How do we keep the wonders of grace and the standards of Scripture married--beautifully supporting each other? The answer lies in making sure that people know that grace is not contrary to holy living. Grace and holiness perfectly agree; the psalmist says they "kiss" (Ps. 85:9-10). ...Grace does not preclude holiness, but makes it possible. Holiness springs from the foundation of grace."

And encouragement yet challenge to the soul
Reading the pages of this book led me to prayer several times. I was most confronted when dealing with works not based on salvation but rather sometimes basing how I feel God loves me based on how well I'm doing living out the Bible. This book and theScripture provided challenge that very notion and I realize that no works of mine are good enough to warrant his Grace. I don't want fairness because if I received fairness I wouldn't like it. Great read for those who have lived a performance based Christian life.

fliped some of my thoughts about why I do what I do & how we "earn" God's love on it's head
lots of thoughts to chew on, but totally worth the effort!fliped some of my thoughts about why I do what I do & how we "earn" God's love on it's head...as it should be--we are loved and forgiven by God and that is what motivates us to act a certain way...not to earn His favor, but because we already have it!
