Wonderful shave soap, highly recommended
Out of all of the 20 or 25 shave soaps and creams I have tried, this product is in my "top 3" along with Martin de Candre and La Toja. The scent is a lightly spicy, green tea scent which appeals much more to my sense of smell than the Provence Sante Verlaine soap.It produces a dense, slick, cushioning lather that I find to be nearly as good as Martin de Candre, but it doesn't cost $64 delivered from France like MdC does. This soap works great with both badger and boar hair brushes, provides great protection and top-notch moisturizing of the face that is even better than Mitchell's Wool Fat soap.I would highly recommend this soap to anyone looking for a great value in a shave soap.If you prefer a more floral, "soapy" scent, go for the original Verlaine scent.

Ok but you can do better
I was hoping for a green tea scent but it was barely there to the point I thought I had ordered an unscented soap. Small hard puck that should last a long time. Lathers well but doesnt leave much slickness. I wouldn't go over a spot without reapplying lather. For the price point I was expecting a little better. For $2 to $3 more you can get an artisan soap that would perform better.

Great Scent, Great Value, Easy on the Skin
I have been using this soap since June and have used just less than half. I haven't used it daily, so I'm sure I would used much of the puck by now, but nonetheless, I've used it a substantial amount. I have used other soaps / creams in the past and I really cannot find a soap that I'm in love with. This is by far one of the best soaps I've used, but still doesn't provide the shave I was hoping for. I have a very soft, "floppy" brush and tend to face lather. That has worked best with this as opposed to a bowl lather or using it with a stiffer brush (or any combination thereof). The scent of this is really quite pleasant. It's "soft" and floral, but not feminine. It's very clean and does not linger. Really, the scent is probably my favorite part of this soap. However, my reason for a four star review is due to lather. It does take several applications to get to the soap's best performance. The exterior of the soap doesn't lather very well. Once you get past that, it produces a very soft, very light lather. It doesn't explode like a cream, but it doesn't need to. I can typically get two shaving passes after loading the brush once for about 15 seconds. Perhaps it's just me, but I can't seem to find that "sweet spot" between soap and water to get the optimal shave. The lather my look like it's slick, it may even feel slick in my hand, but I still experience blade "skipping" and tiny cuts when shaving. Figuring out that mixture of water / cream I find quite easy with a cream. The other thing that I have noticed is that this seems to be very inoffensive to my skin. When I've used this for consistent periods of time, I find that my skin is clear, free of blemishes, ingrown hairs and razor burn ... tiny cuts aside.

Rich lather, lovely scent
This was a gift for my husband and he loves it. He uses a safety razor and says that it provides a cleaner shave than the other soaps he has tried. Plus, the scent is very light and pleasant. It's not a floral, or musk, but just a "clean" scent. Of course it depends on how often you shave and how heavy-handed you are with the soap, but my husband has been using it for six months and I easily can see it lasting a year. As a reference, he only shaves once per week (twice if I'm lucky lol) and keeps a beard. I've seen some interesting things done lately with facial hair, so I'll call it a "traditional" short beard; the kind with the moustache not the Amish variety nor the ones missing chunks in odd places.

This is OK but no great raves.
I use many soaps as a shaver from old school, even straight-edge,,,, This is OK but no great raves......

"it's the best shaving soap in the world--a cake will last you ...
I was first acquainted with this product several years ago at a specialty shop. I balked at the price, and the proprietor said, "it's the best shaving soap in the world--a cake will last you a year of daily use." Curious, I bought it and put it to the test. He was right, and it did last a year. I have bought it annually ever since, with no complaint. I bought the last cake for a friend, who likes it very much. It has become an invaluable part of my mornings, right after good coffee.

Pretty nice soap
Pretty nice soap. The scent to me is slightly floral with a touch of talcum powder. When lathering the scent is very light. I haven't dialed in the lather yet. I've only shaved with it once, but got a good enough lather for my usual 2 pass shave with touch ups.I used a Semogue Mitsura (Badger/Boar blend). Some soaps with fragrance will give me a slight burning or tingling sensation. I had none with this. All in all a very nice soap that will stay in my rotation. I'm glad I tried it. I have a feeling it will grow on me.
