A well crafted mystery and a readable novel that leaves you craving more Monk!
Mr. Monk is Open for Business takes place shortly after the end of Mr. Monk is On Board, and you can palpably feel Hy Conrad getting more comfortable writing Monk in novel form. The transition from On Board to Open for Business is clean (as Monk would want it!), cohesive, and natural. Though Monk will always be Monk (and Lord do we love him for it), we can see a very realistic and subtle improvement in Monk's OCD tendencies and his ability to empathize from book to book since Trudy's murder was solved. It's a true pleasure to see these improvements--all the more impressive in the fact that Conrad is still able to preserve that intrinsic "Monkness"--and still more of a joy to see just how far Natalie and Monk have come in their relationship, both as friends and partners, in how well they know and treat each other. The murder mysteries were interesting, clever, and skillfully handled. Open For Business will keep you amused, but there are a few lovely passages as well: Monk's visit to Trudy's grave and his anxiety about being alone is touching, and Yuki's puzzle metaphor about love was elegant and beautiful (and one I personally couldn't help applying to a certain two detectives; surely I'm not alone on this one). Many questions were left unanswered by the time the cliffhanger came around, and I know many Monk fans will be (not so patiently) waiting for Conrad's next Monk installment. You know you've got a good one when you're left missing Monk and the gang anew at the novel's close, and this book delivers that nostalgia and more. A+

Another TREMENDOUS Monk Novel!
Okay, yes, I am Monk fan. Have all the DVD's, as well as the entire series downloaded for my Kindle. So when the series ended on a tremendous high note, I thought 'that was it'. Then I discovered Lee Goldberg who (along with Hy Conrad) both wrote for the Monk series. If you haven't read Lee's books, do so (and try to do them in order - they are all really good). Hy Conrad has hence taken up the mantle in The Monk series, and let me just say, he is doing a tremendous job!!! I won't give away any spoilers, but just as Lee took the direction of Monk where it needed to go, Hy has also done the same. Not only are all three of his books TREMENDOUS stories, and he captures Monk in his truest form and character, in his third book he leaves you excited in where the series is going next - and in following the next natural and logical progression. But most of all, wanting more. Thanks Hy for doing a tremendous job in The Monk series. My only suggestion is "bring them out FASTER!" A must read. Hope you enjoy it!

Phobic Monk Solves Another Mystery
Well Mr. Conrad is truly in the driver's seat with the Monk novels now and dare I say it he is as good if not better then the previous author of the series whose name at this moment escapes me. Monk is pulled into a private detective agency with guess who as his boss. That is right Natalie opens the doors of the new agency and we can only hope that the other businesses can endure and thrive with Monk on the scene. Not to give away any more of this mystery-comedy; but for all of us who are AVID readers of Monk, he again has to solve one main case with a number of little cases that pop up around him. We all know why by now his need to solve a mystery and we are able to see even further growth of the characters that were developed for the TV and this series of books.

Another Gem in the Monk Book Series
Hy Conrad is a fantastic writer! The Monk novels were very good, however, since Mr. Conrad took over the series the Monk novels are outstanding! Mr. Conrad continues to write in the point of view as Natalie Teeger. Hy can just flat out write a damn good mystery and is a sweet man. I don't know the man personally. However, I happened on his website and proceeded to thank him for his contributions on the TV series Monk as well as the book series. The man got back to me the next day to thank me and answer a question for me.

Getting better....
This novel is much better than the author's last one. More monk, less Natalie. Even though she is the narrator, she stops dwelling totally on herself. I would love a novel with parts from monk's point of view. This would be quite a challenge. It still feels like monk goes out of character at times. This novel was a spider's web of plot lines interwoven. I so look forward to Conrad 's next novel!

I have loved each one in the series
I have loved each one in the series, but this one was definitely a favorite! It was sweet, captivating, and hilarious - I completely devoured it one beautiful sunny day on the balcony. I love how Mr. Conrad is progressing the characters along, and I feel this one is his best one yet! Looking forward to many more to come (hopefully!) - in fact, I just pre-ordered his next one that's coming out in January. (It gives this summer loving girl at least one reason to look forward to another January in MN. Brrr!!) :-)

It's ok
Again with this book I feel that like the previous ones, it is becoming too blah. I enjoy the television show and the books but sometimes I do believe there is too much of a "trying to be like the show" mentality with reference to Adrian. Sometimes it seems like the trying too hard is coming across.

Is Adrian In Love ?
Another winner for me...........Adrian is mellowing.......Either that or he's finally adapting to the real world, horribly filthy as it is......
