Will the reamer and insert shafts fit both handles? Or, does only one handle fit either shaft?

No. They are 2 different diameter inserts so they are not interchangeable.

I believe the L hex key is to change out the 2 -T handle inserts. If you look at the T handles they have a set screw to change out the bits if they go bad

Is it reliable for long time use or just temporary?

It is a very well made kit that should last a very long time if not abused of course……..I love mine and it has paid for itself with one trailer tire repair……
