A Basic Guide to Eschatology: Making Sense of the Millennium

A fair and balanced comparison
I appreciated the balanced perspectives and the time Erickson places on recognizing and mapping the history of these traditional eschatological perspectives.

A worthwhile read
If you can force yourself to get through the first two chapters, then the rest of the study flows nicely. It's certainly an in depth study. So I would say, if this subject interests you as much as it does I, then it's worth the read. I finished it in 3 nights, and now I want to go back and read it again. I still don't know what is certain truth, but no one does.

Theology background would help...
... I hope. I'm finding this book to be difficult. I'm not a theology person, I'm a literature person. I was hoping that this would help me understand varying viewpoints on the Christian Apocalypse - and it does. Sort of. I find the minutiae mind-numbing. My eyes glaze over and I scan the rest of the page without actually reading it. BUT this is the stuff for theology theorists - not the layperson. It says "Basic Guide", but apparently, I need the "For Dummies" version. The info is there - I can barely glean it. For all that - Erickson makes the mud as clear as he can, and I am so glad someone tried. And I DO like it. Really.

Helpful and balanced.
Although I would come to a different conclusion, the presentation fairly summarizes the different points of view. I have read a number of these summaries, and found this one to be much easier to read. The use of Greek throughout the book may be a bit scholarly for some, but even these sections are explained well in laymen's terms.

There is a lot of good information here
Erickson is a little hard to read sometimes. This guide is laid out with some difficulty making it hard to follow. There is a lot of good information here, but the way Erickson arranges material frustrates me sometimes. :)

Excellent Read
Clearly written, thorough coverage with fair treatment of the facts, questions and issues make this a very useful book for those wanting a solid book on the subject of general eschatology as the end times. Worth the time and money. This was an ebook, but there is a paper back that is the same, but with. A different name-Contemporary Options in Eschatology.

A softer approach to a difficult, controversial, and often avoided topic.
The Author takes a complex Bible topic and breaks it down step by step and takes you through the various viewpoints on eschatology. So far, this is the best book that I've read that deal with "The End Time". I like how the author explains how the book came into being, based on sincere students wanting to understand the prophetic. It is not spooky, wild and wooly. To me it a very useful book to own.

A clear overview
This gives an unbiased view of the main tenants of the eschatology: referred to as the millennium and tribulation factors regarding the coming of Christ.

Quite Good
It gave a very good outline of all the millennial issues and dealt with them in a very fair and unbiased manner.
