This chess set is nice but it also has a hoaky component to it as the edge numbers/letters are burned in. It's well made overall, the box is made of wood and serves as a storage box with inlaid plastic places for the figurines. Not sure how it will hold up but for the money ~$35 it's very decent.Not sure where this set is made but it was definitely packaged for the European market. I would guess it was either made in former East Germany, Poland or Romania. It doesn't say on the packaging so probably in the former East Block and a European Union country.The felt is so so and like i said some components to it have a home made touch to it.I would recommend it for a daily game board but it's not fine dining. It's more like a decent quick lunch with no dessert. That's the best analogy I can make.

I play "correspondence" chess on my phone pretty regularly, and I was looking for a set for my apartment that I could have a physical representation of what was on my phone.I was debating between this set and the slightly smaller version (30cmx30cm) that is also on Amazon from the same vendor. I'm glad I got this one. It was a few extra dollars, but it looks great, and I'm not afraid that I'm going to accidentally knock over half the pieces with my fingers. The board is sturdy and looks like it has handmade touches. No idea if anything about it is actually handmade, but for about thirty bucks, looks like it is good enough.Minor issues: Some of the black (actually brown) pieces are significantly lighter (in color) than some of their counterparts. They're still obviously the black part, but are noticeably different. Also, the pieces are pretty light (in weight), so if you're looking for hefty pieces that won't get knocked around easily, look elsewhere. The thing that the pieces go into when you fold the board is a little unwieldy, but functional. Other than that, it's a great set to play with and looks great on my coffee table.Great board for the money!

All of the pieces of this chess set are well made and easily identifiable. No one would mistake them for really high quality pieces by any stretch, but they're certainly a step above your typical plastic pieces in terms of aesthetic. Especially nice is the fact that all the pieces fit neatly into the case formed when you close the board. Each piece has its own mini compartment instead of a dinky divot or strap. This ensures long term durability.There are two things I do not like. One is that the pieces are very light and the bottoms slippery. This means they move *very* easily if you bump the table. Not a huge problem, as chess isn't exactly a violent game. Usually. The second thing I don't like is that the wood used here is pretty low quality. The pieces are easily damaged, especially pieces with fragile parts like the kings and the queens.For the price, though, you'd be hard pressed to find a better option. Overall I'm quite happy with the purchase.

This chess set for the price is very decent. Although the letters and numbers that are carved into the board are a little sloppy, it can be unnoticed easily. The pieces are good quality and sized bigger than your generic chess board that comes with other board games. The only downside is the green felt of the pieces, they don't seem like they will last many years of continuous use, but they sure do look great and feel great on the chess pieces. Overall, this is one of the best beginner chess sets that I have used throughout my years of playing chess. I have been playing chess for almost eight years now, and would recommend this chess set for those who like the appeal of a wooden board, an easy carrying chess set, or just to have as decoration. I have had this for over two years now, and have yet to face any problems with the chess pieces, or the board itself.

This is a wonderful set. I would recommend it to any beginner or pro. I have to say,the handmade pieces are superbly crafted and i enjoy the look of them as well. I'm tired of the "run of the mill" chess design and wanted something more unique in the crafting. The pieces and board were made from farmed trees, so no environmental impact there, and there is a disclaimer on the box that no child labor was used in the creation. My initial reaction was "O-kayyy?" You just don't see that disclaimer on the sets you buy in america, that's all.Only negative is the piece storage area, underneath the board itself, feels cheesy, but for such a terrific price, such as this one, well worth the money spent.
