Great replica of a timeless classic
Shipping - this is not sold by Amazon, but it is stored in Amazon's warehouse, so I was able to place an order late one day, it shipped the next and arrived the day after, within 48 hours of my order with 1 day shipping. Nice instant gratification. The product itself - It looks almost exactly like the original Poul Henningsen design featured on the cover of Miller's Mid Century Modern, only in brushed aluminum. It's packaged well and arrived in good shape. One leaf had a scratch on it, but it's on the top side and completely unnoticeable once installed. Instructions, as you might expect from an imported Chinese knock-off, were woefully inadequate at best, so I'll take a little time at the end to detail some of the trickier bits. It looks gorgeous, and I'll upload some photos when I get a moment. It's delicate as well, you can't really lay it on anything without bending the leaves, so hang on to the packaging until you're ready to wire it to the ceiling. At first, when we installed it, it wouldn't turn on, but I believe that was user error in not getting a good connection between the wires from the lamp and the wires in the in-ceiling mounting bracket. I took it down after getting it up (an arduous process) and jammed the wires into a socket to confirm that it was functioning correctly, confirmed with the old fixture that the ceiling wires were hot, and reinstalled. There's really nothing to go wrong here, it's two insulated silver wires in a 3rd clear rubber tube connected to a standard bulb socket, the rest is just assembled pieces of brushed aluminum and support wires to hold it up.So, the installation. In the package you will find: - A plate with lots of screw holes and attachment points, along with the three wires that hold up the weight of the Artichoke and a threaded tube in the center. The threaded tube has a window in the side to pull the wires out of in order to attach them together. - An aluminum dish with 3 small holes for the support wires and a 4th larger hole in the center for the electrical wire. There's a two-piece clear plastic thingy attached to the tube in the center of the plate that's meant to straddle the aluminum dish and hold it in place. You'll want to take this plastic thingy off for later. - A baggy with drywall anchors, screws, wire stops, and some black electrical thing I ignored. To get an idea of how to mount the wire stops, look at the ones on top of the plate before you install it. - The artichoke. A thing of beauty, it has mounting points for the support wires and an electric wire and bulb socket. Pretty simple.First, attach the plate to the ceiling. It comes with plastic drywall anchors and screws for mounting to your ceiling. I had an existing fixture mountain bracket so I chose to ignore this, instead measuring the distance between the mounting bracket bolts and drilling a new hold in the plate to accommodate the spacing. either way works the same, just get the plate up there. I ran the 14ga solid copper wires through the center of the plate and through a threaded tube there and brought them out the side of the window in that tube. This is important later. When you attach the artichoke, everything needs to go in the proper order. Mounting plate on the ceiling, then half of the clear plastic thingy that screws onto the end of the threaded tube, then the aluminum dish, then the other half of the clear plastic thingy, then the artichoke. When you go to hang the artichoke, you need to at least have the dish installed with the support wires threaded through or you'll have to redo them. The part I wish I'd known before I started would have made the next step much simpler. The 3 support wires that hang from the plate go into 3 attachment points at the top of the artichoke. The attachment points are one-way, meaning you feed the wire in and it grabs it and won't let it slip out, unless you push down on the top of the nipples on the attachment point. I found any one wire was strong enough to support the weight of the artichoke, even the electrical wire (though probably you shouldn't carry it around by the electrical wire like I did). You can haul the artichoke up, push the 3 wires into the mounting points, and it'll hold it there until you can install the little stops on the wire to make it permanent. You can trim the excess wire after you get the height settled and make it hang level. When you thread the electrical wire from the artichoke up through the plastic thingies and the aluminum dish, you'll need to push it through the window in the side of the threaded tube attached to the plate the same way you did with the wires coming out of the ceiling. That way everything mounts up with the wires through the center and you have some room to screw on the insulating end caps (not included) to attach the lamp wires to the ceiling wires.Apologies if this isn't clear, it's probably more clear once you get the stuff in hand, and I didn't take photos along the way.Anyway, once all the wires are in, you push the aluminum dish onto the top half of the clear plastic thingy, thread the other half of the clear plastic thingy on to hold the dish in place (you did remember to string this onto the electrical wire between the artichoke and the aluminum dish when you hauled it up there, didn't you?), adjust the support wires to get it level, and put the wire stops on the end of the wires and trim the excess. Remember the support wires only go one way, you have to push the nipples down on the artichoke to get them to come back out. You're done! Turn the light on! Remember to ground it if you have a ground, the ground wire is on the plate. Sit back and bask in all its artichok-ey glory. I had to rent a 10' ladder from Home Depot to get it above the landing on our stairwell, $15 for 4 hours was way more reasonable than $198 for the ladder, which I would then have to find a permanent home for.

Not easy to install, no instructions
Its looks ok once (if) installed considering the original is easily 10X the price, but there are no instructions at all, and even following another reviewers detailed installation descriptions, it took two experienced contractors half a day and is still not properly installed : they are now trying to fabricate some parts to properly install it. At the least, I think some install diagrams and instructions should come with this. You must be super handy and have at least two people (one to hold it while the other tries to hang it) to even attempt to install it. Wish me luck !

where it can roll around and smash those fins under its own weight would be a bad idea. But that's exactly what the seller did
The light itself is about what you should expect for a $300 knock-off of a $12-15k light fixture. I would give the light around 3, maybe 4 stars. Where this falls down is the shipping. This fixture is a metal frame coversed in thin aluminum fins or "petals". So you'd think that throwing it inside a box that's too big for it, where it can roll around and smash those fins under its own weight would be a bad idea. But that's exactly what the seller did. The net result is that about 80% of the fins were bent, anywhere from just a little, to a lot. 2 broke off completely. One of the things that makes this design so cool is the symmetry, the way all the fins at the same height stick out at the same angle from the body of the light. Well, that's pretty much shot when you bend the majority of them.If you buy this, plan on spending 2 or 3 hours very delicately straightening and aligning the fins. And you may need a pop-rivet gun to attach leaves that have been knocked off.

Nice, but..
I really like the chandelier; however, there were absolutely no instructions or hardware to hang it with. That was kind of a shock. Other than that, it looks really nice and was a good price.

The design is amazing, since it provides enough light and does not ...
I had this light for about two years. I have just moved and had to put it up. The first time, there was a little confusion about how to hang it; however, if you have ever put anything together from IKEA, you will have no problem with this light. The design is amazing, since it provides enough light and does not blend you. My parents like it os much that I am getting them one for Christmas...
