I had the black color kit that had been working well. Finally I got to try this color kit that I brought a few months ago. No spills. I didn't even bother to put on gloves.The 1st important thing is make sure the holder click in place. Otherwise you can't draw ink out probably to start a proper flow when inserted back into the printer.I wouldn't put the label on first. I would use a blunt pencil to trace out the 3 holes on the cartridge. You should be able to see the 3 indentations where the holes should be if not for the original label. You can still feel it. Then you drill at the approx dead centre. Precision is not needed but if you put on the label first, it can be far off.I don't know what will happen if you drill too much. But if you don't drill enough, the needle will not go all the way down until the metal part almost disappears into the cartridge. You can take out a separate needle to test when you are drilling. You can put the label on after drilling so you would not put ink into the wrong hole.The smaller cartridges are only 3 ml large. So you should squeeze the ink bottles gently, slowly and carefully. Because of the diameter of the bottles, sometimes I feel that the bottles as a syringe does move that much. But if you push too hard, you could shoot all the ink out into space all at once. Also, because the needle is that narrow, ink might flow out for a long time even if you press a little on the bottle. If the needle is attached properly, you can see the ink going down the bottle into the needle and into the cartridge. And don't push too hard on the needle down. I would think the sponge down there could block the needle opening especially if it was dry.I got perfect nozzle check pattern in 1st attempt. I got experience on the black kit.As far as "compatible" ink is concerned, I wouldn't use it for important photos. My experience is that they are a bit off unless this one is the exception. And I don't think they will last as long.The only catch is that I got two magenta! The return period is ended and I was desparate. It still works of course but with a different color scheme. I couldn't find separate colors to buy from the same brand so I brought another kit.But, somebody in the world might have an extra bottle of yellow. Wana exchange?

Worked great! This package comes with the three ink supply tanks, a manual drill to open up the tanks in the cartridge and a set of very good instructions.If you follow the instructions, you will be able to refill a cartridge easily. The color quality of the subsequent prints I made was as good as I get with a Canon branded cartridge. I did find that the low ink indicator on the printer stay on after refilling and reinstalling the cartridge. The instructions detail a method to reset this. I followed it but the indicator light did not go off. This did NOT keep the printer from working and making very good prints.SUGGESTIONS:1) Get some vinyl (or other material) gloves because some ink will get on your fingers when refilling--not a lot.2) Cover the work area where you're going to refill the cartridge with a sheet of aluminum foil, then a layer of plastic wrap and finally a paper towel or two. This will prevent any spilled ink from staining a counter top, table top or desk. I recommend doing the whole thing in the kitchen sink since accidents may happen--not the fault of the product as much as human clumsiness.3) Wipe the cartridge with a damp paper towel after refilling to remove any stray ink.4) Cover the holes you drill with a small piece of clear tape (like Scotch Tape) to prevent the cartridge from leaking after you put it back in the printer. I didn't find this in the instructions, yet from prior experience refilling other cartridges knew this to be necessary.While reviews on this product vary a great deal, I found that being careful, covering my work area and following the instructions gave a very good result.

The instruction pamphlet is written in 8 different languages. Because of this, the print is so tiny that I could not read it even with my reading glasses AND a magnifying glass ! I had no way to enlarge the instructions so I am sending it back and will continue to let a warehouse club refill my ink cartridges. I would never have believed that something could be printed in such a small font as to be almost impossible to read. To be able to read the instructions and follow them to refill cartridges was absolutely impossible for me.Jan. 22, 2014 - My neighbor took the inst. pamphlet to UPS & had it enlarged for me so I could see how to refill a cartridge.Since the black counterpart to this color set was opened and I attempted unsuccessfully to fill the black cartridge, I need to tell you the outcome of my experience with the black ink: it has ruined my printer. I initially managed to get some black ink into the cartridge but it soon ran out so I made my second attempt to refill the black cartridge. When I pulled it from my beloved Canon printer, the cartridge was covered in ink. Without touching the contacts, I tried to get the excess ink off and refill just enough to print one, one page document I need. When I re inserted the black cartridge, an orange triangle was displayed with on screen instructions to unplug the printer from the power supply and call Canon for the location of the nearest service center. I went through the entire Canon diagnostics program to no avail. This black ink refill kit ruined a great printer !!! So to save a little money I now have a broken printer. I will have to buy a new printer and have paid dearly for trying to save a few bucks. Do NOT take a chance on ruining your printer ! Buy Canon ink ! It's worth it ! I wish I had !
