Penny never disappoints
I've read the first 9 of Louise Penny's books now and cannot wait to read #10. This collection of books 7-9 was hard to put down. Twists and turns throughout each of the 3 novels.

A Trick of Light
I was late finding Louise Penny’s marvelous Chief Inspector Gamache series, but now that I’ve read them, I am amazed by her series. The depth of each character’s personalities, the compassion and beauty as the stories unfold - all make this series stunning.I think it’s impossible to read these books, without wanting to meet Gamache and sit with him at Bistro in Three Pines, surrounded by the whole cast of marvelous characters in the stories. My humblest Thanks, Louise Penny, for sharing this wonderful community and their stories with us! Karin Mendell.

Excellent read
I would not normally try to read a 1100 page book, but that's what I did. Louis Penny's characters are so real, the book has several plots and story lines all tied together. I enjoyed this so much I tried to read it slower so it lasted longer. Highly recommend.

Gamache outfits them again
Enjoy the Inspector Gamache books. The quirky townsfolk of Three Pines make you laugh out loud. There is usually more than one plot to follow in each book. Highly recommend the series.

It’s No Mystery to Me
Detective novels are usually not my cup of tea, but when two friends with very different tastes, styles and interests rave about Louise Penny, I paid attention. Thank goodness! I am currently reading the tenth book in this series, and remain as intrigued as when I first discovered Chief Inspector Gamache. I’m in love with Three Pines and the wonderful cast of characters Ms. Penny created to inhabit this magical place. And, yes, I’ll admit I have quite a crush on Gamache. The writing is very good. The twists and turns keep me glued to the page. I’ve even learned a bit of French. Merci!

Love Story
My Covid life is being taken over by Armand Gamache and Jean Guy Beauvoir. Husband is wondering why my attention is turned towards them and not him. After Book 9, I realized I was reading a Love Story type of book between two heterosexual men. What an incredible page turner. I thought Book 5 was a golden treasure, not to be outdone, but each succeeding book proved me wrong. This one was the best - until the next book.

Surprise ending but much disappointment
This last book of the trilogy had great hope. It failed miserably. The story for me had too many flaws that wouldn’t make any sense. For example the plot to blow up the bridge is done to get the government to investigate the flaws in construction. How can a government get caught up with an investigation of flaws when the bridge is to be destroyed with explosives. Wouldn’t someone want to look at this bridge to find where it failed. It also has too many heroic endings for all the “good guys”. There are also too many dramatic moments in the story. I have only read a few of the author’s rendering of the Gamache series and all the prior ones I found very interesting but this one I found lacking in any reasonable story.

A Superb Series Continues
Louise Penny continues to deliver sharp writing that delivers suspense, drama, intrigue, humor, and makes us feel truly connected to these characters. If you haven't read previous books in this series, I implore you to stop what your doing and proceed directly to book 1: A Still Life. This book, book 9 of the series, finds our beloved Inspector Gamache dealing with corruption within the Surete (Canadian police force), the breakdown of a close friend, and of course a murder. The action swings back and forth between Three Pines and Montreal, and we get to see most of our favorite townies. Of all the books thus far in the series, this one delivers the most action and "can't put the book down," suspense. But to truly appreciate where these characters find themselves, decisions they make in this book, and how they interact -- you must read from the beginning.

Most enjoyable reading.
We love her books. My wife laughs out loud at her humours wording. She makes the characters so easy to imagine plus each book has several plots which eventually connect. Excellent reading.
