Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy: A Modern Graphic Retelling of Little Women (Classic Graphic Remix, 1) Review: Modern Mix - I absolutely LOVED this retelling of Little Women. I love how this is a blended family where Jo's mom married Meg's father and then they had Beth and Amy. This is set in New York City which is a great place for it to be set. I love seeing how this book parallels with the original story. That instead of the father fighting in the Civil War he is over in the Middle East. And how they changed Jo and Meg's love lives and Beth's illness. Once I got started it was hard to put down Review: Great book that celebrates diversity - My 9 year old daughter thought the boon was great. I found It looking for books with diverse characters for her age range. She loved the imagery and told me a parent died of cancer in the book. She didn’t tell me a character comes out as a lesbian because she wouldn’t think of that as something I would Say was inappropriate for her. Because it’s 2020 and it’s totally normal for people to be in consensual romantic relationships with whomever they please. I read The book also and thought it was good. Hoping there will be more in this series. I loved little women and will say if you’re a gown up literary purist this might not do it for you. But if you’re an open minded 9-13 year old it’s great.

Fantastic Book!
This is a fantastic book that my nine year old daughter can't put down! Fantastic modern retelling. Yes, my daughter had questions about Jo's coming out, but they were age appropriate ones that I was ready to answer. I'm positive that Louisa May Alcott, who was very progressive for her time, would have approved.

Excellent Update on Little Women
This book is a great update on Little Women. The current day setting lends to some brilliant ideas that are so relatable to what kids may deal with today. I was particularly moved by the updated reason as to why Jo cuts her hair. Absolutely beautiful! As a middle school teacher, recommending Little Women is tough, because students can struggle to understand the older language. This is a perfect recommendation to those students who would love the story, but might have a tough time with the older language.

I wish more books were like this right now!
What a wonderful read! I can't claim to be a full Little Women fanatic, but I did love the book as a kid. As an adult, I really enjoyed this retelling! How wonderful to have the same themes of family and sisterhood set in a context of current day. More specifically, I loved that it was in Brooklyn, that it's a blended family, that it's an interracial family, that it deals with modern day topics, etc. In a world where so many books seem to erase the existence of working class people, people of color, LGBTQ people, the military, etc., it was refreshing to read a story that acknowledged and celebrated that those things exist! The only bits I didn't like were at the beginning where there is some (what felt to me) forced exposition about how the family came to be formed. My guess is that this may have been to cater to a YA audience; myself, I think some illustrated endpapers or pre-story panels with a family tree might have done the job without being quite so heavy handed. But after that initial part, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing. Without spoiling anything, I can say there were pages that made me grin and others that got me all teary. I read the book in a day, and immediately handed it off to my wife to be read. I'm excited that the book exists, excited to have read and enjoyed it, and excited for the day when my two kids come across it on our bookshelf and ask to read it.

I wasn't sure how I'd feel when I started
But I really liked this book. I'm a traditionalist. I first read Little Women in a beautiful hardcover edition that my mother had been given for her 12th birthday - in 1932. I also loved the film starring Katharine Hepburn as Jo March. The updates in this version were very thoughtfully done, and with a little effort one can follow the trajectories of the stories from the original and gain new insights. It might be a tad too happy ending (*spoiler alert*, Beth does die in the original), but I was willing to go along.

Beautiful Book, Beautiful Art!
The story is a wonderful retelling of an old classic. It has everything I wish to see in a graphic novel. While there are small things in the book that younger kids might not understand, I found it to be a wonderful way to talk to my kids about it through a book they enjoyed; instead of getting the wrong information from people that aren't accepting of others differences, to only spew out delusional messages and hate.

Modern Story for Girls and Women (and Others Who Love Them)
Gorgeous, modern adaptation of a classic. The girls really represent what it means to be family and there are some really tough moments and words and love involved, but at the end of the day (book) these little women fill your heart with joy in their triumphs. This is one of my favorite versions of Jo.

Little Women for the millennials !!! The overall charm of the classic still remains intact in this heart warming tale. However be warned this contains few elements of sexual identity exploration so wouldn't recommend for young children.

Loved it- kept the essence of the original, the spirit, yet is it's own fresh, current version.
