This is a very personal story which runs the gamut of human emotions. It is written in a unique and incredibly enjoyable style. It certainly has a point of view, but peddles it in a thoroughly entertaining, humorous, and intellectual way. My book club chose this book to read. Every single person in the club loved the writing style and thought that it gave them a lot to think about. It made for a very funny, thought-provoking, and lively discussion about everything from childhood to politics. One of the best books I have read in yeats!

Excellent story, informative, sensible. Lacks a little in a way of a great literary book. But, I recommend for instructive reasons.

Boring.

I had not heard about children being sent from Cuba to the US during the early years of the cuban revolution, so I had high hopes for this book. However, the book is a miss mash of endless nostalgia , full of tedious memories , mostly of little importance. I managed to read the 1st half of the book properly but soon began to despair. There is no real chronological order - one minute you are reading about experiences of the Cubans in the US then back to pre revolutionary Cuba then something else etc etc . A very poor book. I love everything about Cuba but I did not feel like I had learned very much from this book. Avoid this at all costs . Waste of money.

AMAZING book. amazing writing. Really touching. if you want to know about cuba and how communism affected Cuban's lives, this is it.
