Photographer's Guide to the Nikon Coolpix P510 Paperback – Illustrated, July 10, 2012

I purchased this book approximately 2 months ago... I have read the book periodically, and have been astounded with the results.. I'm currently half way through the book, and after I read a section, I do trial and error photos to perfect the settings and adjustments...Recently I traveled to a vacation spot and took over 1000 photos across a weeks time, using the tips and techniques stated throughout the publication... the camera has features that I didn't even know existed and I'm truly thrilled that I have been able to read up and perfect the techniques. Now mind you, I am only halfway through the book! I cannot wait to read the rest of this book and be able to get full use out of this astonishing camera... Hands down, purchasing this book is the best investment since I purchased the camera a year and a half ago... highly recommended...Tomorrow, I'm going to an NFL game, with the 42x zoom, and the knowledge I have acquired in recent weeks, I'm anxious to take a lot of photos, and videos...

This is a good basic book on every feature of the P510. It is thorough, yet it is written for the beginner. The author includes straightforward descriptions of virtually every button and menu item as well as a lot of good examples of how the various features could be used. If you are looking for lots of creative ideas on how to take great portraits, or stunning landscapes, then this isn't the book for you. If, however, you are seeking to become well acquainted with the function of every feature so that you can exercise your own creativity, or at least gain competence in operating this feature-laden camera, then click that "order" button. One example that comes to mind is the subtle but important distinction made between the vibration reduction feature and the motion detection feature. The illustrations are useful if not inspiring.

Was very glad to find this book at Amazon as the manual for the camera came on a disc and to me that is frustrating. I find it difficult to "flip" from one section to another and look at both at the same time on a disc. Printing it was out of the question because of the number of pages. So finding this book was a godsend. It is clear and easy to understand. My issues with any camera manual remain the same however, they all scatter information about the same process in different places in the manual. I will say that Mr. White does a better job with this than others I have seen. Thank you Mr. White.

After spending more than a few hours struggling through the PDF manual that Nikon included with my camera, I was frustrated and confused. After just an hour or so with this book, I've already learned, and more importantly, understood, a great deal about the camera. The book follows a logical sequence, starting with battery and memory card installation, and moving into the simplest way to shoot, auto mode. The book continues to progress from simple to more complicated functions, but always in a clear and concise way, and frequently, with pictures that illustrate exactly what the author is teaching you.I am thrilled with both the content, and approach, of this book. If you have a P510, you need this book :)

This was recommended last year by someone reviewing the Coolpix P510. I ordered it shortly after I got my camera. Even tho the P510 is fairly easy to use, I was somewhat of a novice, having used a much simpler camera for several years. Most of all, I get extremely irritated by online owner's manuals, because I have a cabin in the woods with no internet connection, so I have no way to read the online manual when I am out in nature, where I take most of my photos. This is easy to read, easy to understand, and a good general guide to the P510.

If you are willing to sit down and read the guide through, it is well worth the trouble and expense. To me it is not a great quick reference guide, but that guide came with the camera. There is a certain amount of redundancy because Alexander White organizes the guide from several aspects: the physical location of the features on the camera, the features that are on each dial, its various capabilities, etc. I find this helpful as I could not possibly remember all the capabilities of the Nikon P510 if they were all present just once in the guide.

The book is very good, although there are some aspects that could be better.Perhaps the photography examples are not quite good, maybe because of the small size, so differences cannot be appreciated between different takes where differences should be noticeable.The paper chosen is standard and not very good. Of course the book is not expensive, so this might be a reason.I'm still reading it and using it.Of course it's a complement to the camera's guide and it helped me discover things I didn't know about.

This guide is extremely useful but don't buy the Kindle version, get the book. This is an area where ebooks are limited. I bought the Kindle version but got so frustrated with the inability to flick back and forth between pages that I bought the paper version. Much better. I travel with my Kindle so this version may not be totally wasted but to learn how to use your camera in detail you need the paperback. Books on Bridge Cameras are so few and far between that this specialist book for the Nikon Coolpix P510 is a godsend and may even be useful for owners of other bridge cameras. The guide takes you through the controls in much greater detail than the Quick Start Guide supplied with the camera, explaining how to get the best out of each setting and how to move in the direction of DSLR. and creative photography. I have this book now on iPad and on kindle.It tells you the basics right from what each button does and what the layout of the buttons are.The detail in the book is great and it goes into fine detail about the manual functions. I went from a basic small digital point and shoot camera. Now using the nikon p510 is great and I don't think I would of learned so much without this book.The book lays out very well on my windows phone through the kindle app. The reason I have the kindle version and the apple version is so I can read it at home and then when I go out with my camera I have it on my phone too.This book helps you master the nikon (p510) you can get some great photos done by just reading all the relevant information.The writer guides you through how to use the different modes, explaining it very well and with 2 different pictures to see the difference.I love this book, it has helped me to develop my photography skills.Highly recommended for all.

I bought a Nikon P510bridge camera last year and had some problems with fully understanding the instructions for complete operation. I then saw this book on line and purchased it, the book is nearly good as the camera. The instructions are given in the correct order chapter by chapter, when you need to find out anything for operation look at the index find the correct page and there is the instruction in easily read words of how to do it.If I ever puchase another camera I will certainly buying the "Photographers Guide" to it.

this book has proved to be an exellent way to find out,how the p510 works it defines all the shooting modes in plain language that everybobody will understand.it describes situations,which mode is the best for that type of photo and gives some tips on how to set up for a good photo. personally i wanted to find out about manual mode how to set camera up from scratch setting iso,shutter speed, apeture light balance,choice of focus when to use a tripod.ect. its all in the book exellent value for money would reccomemd ..this book to anyone with a nikon coolpix p510. you wont be dissapointed. .donnie.

I have only just started to read this book after struggling with the camera, being a pure novice. The small amount I have read I am very impressed with. You get straight forward information in a language you can understand. It starts simple and works you through step by step. I bought this after a recommendation from a friend who was also very impressed. It may seem expensive but you will get much more from your camera so a good buy.
