Kent Marine Reef Salt Mix 25 Gallons

I have been a reefer for 20 years. I have used all different brands of salt. reef crystals, kent (original), oceanic, tropic marin, coralife, red sea, sea chem and E.S.V. I have had a new 125 gallon reef tank set up for the last year and a half and from the start I used E.S.V. salt. In the beginning I was a fan of the E.S.V. salt. I didn't care for the 4 part mixing, but it did mix clear within 5-10 minutes. Corals showed no reaction to fresh mixed water. However I was having several issues with it. I kept finding unknown particles in the salt portion. They wouldn't dissolve in the water. Also, 2 of the 4 parts are liquid. There was a precipitate on the bottom of one of them that i could never get to go back into solution, so I know my trace elements were off. I always got inconsistent test reading on fresh mixed seawater. Especially magnesium, which was one of the solid components. I always had to put 1 1/2 times the amount in, which always made me run out early so I never got the full 200 gallons of saltwater. I followed the directions to a T and weighed everything including my 0 tds RO/DI water. I tried on numerous occasions to contact ESV and they never bothered to return my email. I finally got fed up with the lack of customer support and expensive price on a product that just doesn't live up to the hype around it. So after much research I decided to go back to kent and try this new formula of reef salt. I wish I would have started with this salt. Its a very fine powder that dissolves easily. It does take about a half hour of circulation to clear but I'm okay with that. I have since changed all 125 gallons of my tank in 60 gallon intervals. My corals showed no reaction to the fresh water and actually had better extension with in the first day. I have a 34 head duncan coral that has struggled to open for months, the 2nd day of using this salt all 34 heads were open. I will never switch to another brand of salt as long as the quality remains high. I tested both 60 gallon batches. it makes the pH a little high like 9.5 so thats the downside and also i think its a little expensive when you can buy a 200 gallon box of instant ocean reef crystls for the same price and is a much better salt brand.

Arrived hard as a brick. Had to beat for about 5 minutes to get it to break up. I mix 18 gallons and it took almost the entire bag to get the salinity correct. Extremely overpriced and apparently old too. Very unhappy

Got the salt and mixed it without a heater and had no precipitation. I have no complaints so far. Good value for the money and Kent is a good manufacturer

Alk, cal and mag all low. Leaves nasty gray coating on mixing barrel. That means the stuff I need most is precipitating out and not staying in solution and getting to my tank.
